Anyone rent a boat/catamaran near Playa for guest excursions?

Recommended Posts

Hi brides!

I'm thinking of renting a catamaran or some kind of fun boat for our bridal party during our wedding weekend in Playa Del Carmen. Has anyone had experience doing this? I've paid to take a sunset cruise many times, but I was hoping to have the boat to ourselves for a day of snorkeling, sun-bathing and cocktailing!

Would love any input!

We just returned from a week in Akumal(where we got engaged! : ) We chartered a catamaran from Akumal for the day and it was amazing. It fits up to 19 people. We paid 1000 for 9 people and left the bay @ 9:30 am and returned around 4pm. They sailed us out to a beautiful secluded beach where they prepared us lunch. We got to hang around on the beach and play in the water for a couple hours and then they sailed us to a private lagoon location where we went snorkeling - it was awesome!! They provided all of the pop, beer, water, and tequila. The guys got to fish off the back of the boat as we sailed. Didn't catch anything - but had fun trying. The place we charted out of was called Akumal Dive Shop. It would be the only place like that in Akumal. Akumal is about a 30 minute drive from Playa Del Carmen. Check it out - you will love it!

Hi- I have contacted Cancun Catamarans, Cancun Catamaran Tours, Cancun Sailing, Sailboats in Cancun, Yachts and Deep Sea Fishing Charters.. It's one american and one brit who own the company. They are very nice. I have not booked yet. They have a 4 hour minimum charge for the private charter. We are looking to do a 4 hour sunset cruise leaving at 3:30p. He quoted me $1025. That includes snacks and drinks. We can snorkle if we want, but we are not going to. I tried to contact a few other places, but there was a language barrier. I want to know if this is a good price! This price was for a 46 foot catamaran that holds 40 people. We are having 20 people and don't want everyone to be on top of eachother. Keep me posted with price info that you get!

I have been really thinking about doing a catamaran as well. I am staying at Dreams Tulum and was wondering how close some of these places were to us? We will have 19 people in our party. Or if something might be closer. oh and I was wondering how do you get banned from the forum? and so quickly I guess? thanks!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
