Hi all..

am getting married in November 2011 at melia Caribe Tropical, was very excited but now bit anxious .  to be honest I dont really kow how i go about planing and sorting things I got a email today saying i have a weddign co-ordinater i was wondering if anyone could help where do i start  :s not even had th date confirmed!!!!!  I wanted photo souvenir to do the photography after seeing some beautiful pictures of another bride and when i emailed they said they dont do weddings at the melia caribe? is this becasue of the fee i read about tonight on here? what is the fee? am really disheartened and fed up to the point if i knew about the fee i might of thought twice about getting married their, i want some lovely photos as not all my family can come . again anyone want to share their photos with me please ? i love the trash the dress pics ! what is the fee for and does it still apply am kind of getting stressed panicking about it all.  especially as its cost us alot to go now and now more expense if we dotn want to use their photogrpaher and has anyone actually used their photographer? please feel free to email me with any opinions and suggestions haychxx@hotmail.com thank you i advanced from a very stressy bride to be x

Congrats to all the brides! Im getting married at Hard Rock Punta Cana on July 09,2011.

Last year i went to DR to do site inspections at several resorts. Moon Palace was the choice as I loved the simplicity and modern feel. But obviously since then the resort has been transformed into Hard Rock. Now with the funky eclectic look - simplicity is gone. I am going to visit the resort in May to see all the changes first hand. I will post images upon my return. If anyone has had their wedding there since the change can you please PM me. Would greatly appreciate all the helpful tips.

I was wondering if anyone can help me narrow down my decision of which resort to have my wedding at in Punta Cana. Wedding traveling dates are Nov 5, 2011 - Nov 12, 2011. I have narrowed it down to the Bahia Principe Punta Cana, the Majestic Colonial and the Melia Caribe Tropical. Any insight would be helpful. I have never been to the DR, but have been searching different resorts for months. Thanks.

Do you have a price point?? That's often the easiest way to eliminate, lol. For example, our top 3 were similar - Majestic Colonial, Grand Palladium, and Melia Caribe. We capped the price at $1500 because a lot of our guests wouldn't have been able to make it were it more than that so right away the majestic was out. We then picked the Grand Palladium over the Melia because the reviews at the time (not sure if they've changes since 9 months ago) were a bit better and they had had more recent renovations. So that's how we decided but I think it's probably a different decision for everyone based on what you're looking for. Goodluck!

Well, there could be more than one fee they're referring to. First, if you get an outside photographer (so I photographer not based at the resort, which a lot if not most brides do) then you need to pay for them to get a day pass to come onto the resort to photograph your wedding...you just pay the resort directly and it's not a big deal - usually in the $60-$100 range. However, the fee I think he is probably referring to, is something extra. I've heard that some resorts in Punta Cana (not all...so yours may be one of them) change an extra fee. Basically I think it is to encourage people to use the resort photographer...I think I remember one bride saying it was an extra $300 or something ridiculous but I'm not sure. You could email the resort wedding coordinator for clarification.

 

However, there are LOTS of other wonderful photographers in Punta Cana that do weddings. Caribeean Emotions (Michael Weiler), JALU, HDC, etc...google them or check facebook as most have FB pages and you can see uploaded photos there. Hope that helps!

Hi Haychxx,

We just got back from our wedding at the Majestic Elegance and we used Renaud of Photosouvenir and he was wonderful!  I will post a link to our pictures at the bottom of this email for you to look out.  Renaud actually told us what was going on with the Melia Caribe.  He said that the resort forces him to add a $1,000 fee to his prices.  He said that the resort forbids him to tell the bride why the prices are so high as well.  So, I think he has just decided to not take pictures there.  If you aren't sold on the resort, maybe look at another one???  I have nothing but great things to say about Renaud.  He photographed our wedding and we did Trash the Dress the day after our wedding.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

Great pictures!  I am so excited.  I am using Photosouvenir for my wedding & TTD as well.  Did you do your TTD at the resort?
