Hello, I'm new here. My name is Dana.

My fiance and I were engaged the day before Valentines Day and we're thinking to get married this summer (not much time to plan, I know : ) in the Playa Del Carmen area of Mexico. I've been thinking about the Grand Palladium (we had starting looking at late July and found a date that was open but have to check if it is still available). It's been very nerve racking with family and friends not really liking the idea, I've tried to research other options (having something here in Ohio or at least in the US) but none sound like what I want. Anyway, it's been very helpful reading the posts. It sounds like many of you have had some of the same issues and questions that I've had.

Hi Dana!! I too am new to this board and am finding it very helpful!

I know how hard it can be when you have family members that do not like the idea, but you have to remember that it is your day, and you should do whatever will make you and your fiance the happiest!! I dont have any information on the Playa Del Carmen area, but I am sure you will find some on here from the other ladies!

Welcome to the club! The forum and having family that isn't thrilled with your choice for a DW.

My Mom was ALL for a DW but just yesterday I was filling her in on my research and how much the resort would cost for a week ($1450 which I think is pretty reasonalbe for an AI vacation) and she says "you know a lot of people won't be able to go, right?" Heck yes I know this! That is one of the added bonus' for a destination wedding!! rolleyes.gif Joe and I just keep telling ourselves this is our wedding and we're doing it our way. Good luck!

Welcome. I think the hardest thing about planning a DW is knowing that many people will get upset with you for having it. But just keep in mind that it's your day and the people that matter to you most will make a point to be there to share it with you.

This has been a huge issue for a lot of us here! We thought the same things, but didn't really care who attended, and just remembered that this was OUR day.......

You will be surprised at how many people WILL book with you guys, and use it as their personal vacation as well!

Good luck and happy planning!!!

Ahh, that's the beauty of a DW!! Everyone seems to get mad at you for having your dream wedding. The good news is: it'll weed out all the people you don't really want there/don't really want to be there themselves anyways! Have you thought about having an at-home reception when you come back for those who can't make it??

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
