Why i will not be getting married at the valentin maya

Recommended Posts

I got engaged last august, and we immediatley decided on getting married in the Mayan. So when we made vacation plans, I decided to take advantage of the situation, and stay at a resort I was interested on getting married at.

First let me start by saying the Valentin Maya resort is GORGEOUS!!!!! you will not be disapointed! The service was the best (by most) Rooms are beautiful, and very clean. The resort itself is well maintained, and breath-taking (perfect for wedding photos) The only thing the resort was missing, was none of the water features were working? Not sure why?

Ok now the bad! I figured that while I was there I would make an appointment with the wedding coordinator. I was hoping for a little tour see Ceremony sites, honeymoon suite, And I also thought I could get a few questions answered. Lupita(guadaluppe sp?)(same person) blew me off, not once but twice.

The first time I talked to her on the phone (while in the lobby), and I explained that I was considering having my wedding there, and that I would like to meet with her to ask her a few qustions etc... She quickly replied "the wedding package info is on our website" After a moment of silence I replied " I have some questions that arent provided on the website" again silence.... then she says " well I am far too busy right now, you need to make an appointment" ok understandable, so she books a day, and time, and I leave it at that!

I showed up for my appointment, the concierge calls her, and tells her i was waiting for her, and she makes him ask if I had an appointment? ummmmm ya you choose the day, and time! rant.gif So finally she comes out of her office, and honestly she was very nice, but you could tell she didnt want to waste her time with me. I asked her a couple of questions (can you have a private reception?, location's of ceremony?, decorations?) but after getting responses like "information is on the website", Ya there are some decorations, or ya ceremony is held on beach. I gave up! She took my email address and told me she would email me the 2008 wedding prices from off the website. Obviously I never recieved that either. censored.gif

Not only was she not answering my questions she never once asked me any questions!!! Wouldnt she want to know how many people I was bringing, or when I was planning on coming downhuh.gif? Or how about intead of answering with a quick 'yes' when i asked about private receptions, she could have told me my different location options!

I left very frustrated, and quite upset!!!! angry.gif

My fiance went down the next morning (while I was still asleep)to speak to a manager, and he was very appologetic, and brought down the 'other' coordinator (cant remember her name) He said that she was way more accomidating, and offered to show us around. But Lupita had made me feel so horrible about wasting her time, I had decided on not getting married at the Valentin anymore.

Im not sure if my expectations were unrealistic? Maybe this is how all wedding coordinators are at every Mexican resort?, but I was NOT IMPRESSED!

Either way I expected more from the resort "wedding co-ordinator"

Good luck to you all, if you have any questions, or if you want some pictures of the resort.... let me know! I am more that willing to help.

Unlike what Lupita would say.... "Information is on the website"[/b]

I'm sorry you went through that. From what I can tell...especially lately...it seems that all Resort WCs are completely overwhelmed and don't come across to future brides as very nice or accomodating. My wedding is in 5 months and I have only spoken to the WC once for some pictures of the resort since I wasn't able to have a site visit.

I don't think it is acceptable to be rude and I'm not making excuses for her at all, but from being on this site it seems that Resort WCs pretty much focus all their time and efforts on the weddings within a month or two and the rest, will have to wait until it is their month.

Good luck with your planning!

Im sorry that you has such a horrible experience. My husband and I spent our honeymoon there in Ocotober. The resort was beyond amazing. But we were there for 10 days, and the whole time there wasnt 1 wedding, so I dont know how busy they could possibly be. I hope you find another place that is as amazing, if not better.

sad.gif I'm sorry that you had such a rough time with them. We were considering the Imperial Maya for our wedding too at one point, and I remember getting no answers to my questions....hence why were not getting married there either.

We also tried contacting the WC at the Valentin and got no response to multiple emails we sent. Our TA tried and was given the runaround. We thought we had finally made a breakthrough and was going to confirm a date. They sent us a date and we agreed to it. Then a few days later they said they would need to bump us back a few days. What if we had already booked our flights? What about our guests bookings? We stopped right then and moved on. We really wanted the Valentin, but we weren't going to risk something going wrong. I hope the Excellence will treat us right. So far so good with them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
