Jamaica with no passports???? (I'm Canadian)

Recommended Posts

Get your passport. If you can get to a passport office, it'll be quicker. AND they will ask you when you need it for and they definitely try to get it for you as quick as possible if you need it soon.

They usually have the regular tunraround time posted somewhere at the office. But there is the option to have it expedited.

I think you'll have it in time.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am hoping to get my passport application sent on Monday!! We don't have a passport office in our city (it's small) so I can't apply for express processing. So I'll have to wait for the full four week processing time. But I don't think I've worded my question correctly. The thing is, I know I am able to travel to Jamaica and get married there without a passport. You don't need a passport to travel there from Canada. What I guess I was wondering is has anyone done this, and if so, has not having a passport created any problems. My TA tells me that is my passport doesn't come it's not the end of the world, but it will cause problems for us if for some reason our flight gets diverted into the US.

I was told the same as you but I don't know anyone who's travelled without it. I would recommend that when you fill out your passport application that you write in your departure date as earlier than it really it. A friend of mine had to wait until the week before she left to receive her passport. If you write in that you're leaving 2 weeks before you really need it then you should have it in plenty of time. Just a suggestion but I would hate to have that on my mind so close to the wedding. but like some others said...they usually come in earlier than you would expect so don't worry about it. I'm positive you'll have it in time for you wedding.

and if not... then you can update this thread and let us know how the travelling went!!

good luck!

  • 1 month later...

Update:

Just a warning to any other slack Canadian brides- my passport came today after sending it almost two months ago (I leave in four days!). THREE of my passport photos were rejected by Passport Canada!!! Insane!

And, I know no one else will be as unprepared as I, but you CAN travel to Jamaica direct from Canada without a passport. But now I don't have to worry about it!! :)

Well said....

For our legal (Cuban) wedding, we needed to send copies of our passport 3 weeks in advance to the WC.

MOVE IT!!!!

Let us know how it all works out!

I also came from a small town with the passport office being about an hour and a half from here, but honestly, just take a day with your FI and make a day out of it, go to lunch, maybe see a movie. Then you can rush it, and make sure everything is correct the first time you send it in. It would be one less thing to stress about.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
