Tipping the Wedding Planner????

Recommended Posts

Our wedding planner worked for the resort. We gave her a thank you card and a necklace from Tiffany. I also tipped for hair and makeup. My photographer I gave a thank you card and a Best Buy gift card.

I didn't tip florist, DJ, etc all those other things because I got the rest through the hotel and not directly. @_@ Was I suppose to tip seperately? Hmmm now I cannot remember if we added service charge on top of our total bill.

My understanding is that the only tip-able events occur when someone performs a service for you that doesn't involve and actual end-product.

Going by those rules, you don't tip your photographer (s/he provides your photos as the end product, and the session fee is theoretically included in your payment), florist, baker, and the like.

When the vendor performs a service, then it becomes a potentially tip-able event. (After all, tips are supposedly optional). Thus, you would tip your hairstylist, makeup artist, delivery people (cake, catering, etc.) and officiate (assuming s/he didn't charge a specific fee). Depending on whether the gratuity was including in your catering/reception site contract, you may or may not need to tip the waitstaff/bartender, although if one of them does a particularly good job, you might slip them a little something in the end.

My WCs being provided by the hotel, and I consider their services part of the package. I'll probably end up giving them gifts instead of money tips.

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good  I enjoyed my stay at both, but personally I liked the ambiance better at Dreams La Romana.  In the past 10 years or so Destination weddings have become very popular and the resorts do 100's each year. 60 guests with approx 30 rooms or so is a great group, but when the resorts have 500+ rooms they do not look at it as a large group. Most resorts are pretty set when it comes to what they offer in their wedding packages, but some may do an upgrade for the bride & groom if it's available. The benefit of doing a group block is you have the opportunity to earn group amenities based on the number of guests & rooms that book at the resort.  Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks TA Patty      Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
