Hi ~ I just received an e-mail from Jackie today. She mentioned that she doesn't have that many weddings scheduled for February so she should be able to answer e-mails much quicker.

Jackie emailed me back and said that there was a $200 flat fee per outside vendor. I'm pretty upset by this as it was so vague in the contract. Also, she seems to be changing this policy frequently and quoting different people different numbers. That adds an extra thousand or so to my total bill if I use the vendors i was planning on using but she never made it clear to me which vendors were her "approved" vendors. This feels unreasonable to me as we are spending so much on food, beverage, etc through Ana y Jose. I would gladly use her vendors if they weren't twice as expensive as all the rest. I hope she will reconsider this given our collective concern.

I sent Jackie an e-mail complaining about the vendors fees and asking why she charged them becasue I thought she should be able to find vendors as cheap as I did. I thought that was why we are paying her $1500. She never responded to that e-mail. So I decided she can get her $400-$600 extra out of me, but I chose Ana y Jose based on reviews and I'll be sure to let everyone know about it in my review. Maybe she can redeem herself by then, but right now I feel like she is being very shady.

Regarding her vendors this is what she said to me, "we have worked in 5 years with a lot of vendors and have had various experiences that did not match the quality we deliver in each of our weddings (musicians, officiants, furniture rentals, DJ's etc). Some vendors were recommended to us and other's were brought by brides contacting them through the internet. Of course there are less expensive vendors than the ones we have, which have proven to deliver an excellent service which is key for the perfect outcome of an event, especially for a Wedding. We don't offer many options for vendors because the best are just a few." I understand that you get what you pay for but that isn't a good rationale for charging us an external vendor's fee. Maybe she gets a cut from those vendors as well. I'm not going to haggle too much over a few hundred mostly because I don't want Jackie to get upset with me but I just think this should just have been more clearly defined in our contracts. I agree she should offer some cheaper options as well.

Hello All AyJ Brides to be,

In regards to the outside vendor fee, can anyone else confirm the following:

for musicians, you pay a $200 outside vendor fee PLUS $150/hour for every hour they play?!?!

I understand why we pay an outside vendor fee that is not on their vendor list - its just part of the business. Fine, i get that. What I don't understand is that by finding these outside vendors ourselves we take the risk of them not performing up the standards of the people on her vendor list...but that is OUR RISK...so why do we have to PAY THEM these extra fees for something that can't be blamed on them but only us? AM I making any sense?

So based on all the fees, if you were to hire an outside DJ to play for 4 hours lets say, in just AyJ fees alone you will be paying $200 (outside vendor fee) + $600 (@$150/hour) = $800 - and this doesn't even include the fees the DJ is charging. I think this is highly unreasonable and a total scam.

If I am incorrect a/b all this, please somebody let me know. I have emailed Jackie and asked, but am still waiting a return reply.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
