Are you changing your name?

Recommended Posts

I am glad I am not the only one that has seriously been contemplating this! My daddy only has daughters and I always said i would hyphenate when i got married to carry his last name on a little longer. My username on here is actually what my new last name would be if I hyphenate, I wanted to get used to how it would look.

Lately, I have been wondering if I should just take his name to make things easier for when we have kids. They will take his last name, but mine will be hyphenated. My FI says he will support whichever I decide, hyphenating or not. I don't even know why I am stressing this when there are so many other things to worry about!

I always thought I'd take the name of my future husband but once I found him I decided I didn't want his last name.....hahaha

FI says he's fine with it. He understands that it costs money to change names and he knows that I don't like his last name with my first name(too many A's) Since we don't plan on having children I figure it won't be that big of a deal since it seems more common now for woman not to take their husbands name. If FI told me it bothered him I would think about it some more but since he's fine with what I choose I'll just stick with what I know.

I am changing my last name-

I thought through most of my life and engagement that I wouldnt..mainly because I like my name..and theres no 1 in my family to carry on our family name.(my father had all girls and so did his brother) I changed my mind after while.Mainly because Ive heard its a lot easier dealing with banks...and when we go to buy a house that overall its just easier. Also I wouldnt want our kids to have to take my last name as well to carry on the name so it would stop with me. I figured I will always be a apart my family I dont need their last name to show it. (after changing my mind im pretty excited to take his last name) I dont feel I will "loose my idenity" although i can see why people may feel that way... but to me I know who I am..where I came from and am OK with taking his name. My fiance feels honored that I am going to take his name. Which is a nice feeling I guess

I never thought I would be attached to my last name...but I think this may be a function of age more than anything else. I've spent 30 plus years as a "Sutton"...and it has formed my identity. I love being able to take on a new name as it is a new identity...I am now a married woman, but slowly.

So I am hyphenating for now. Eventually, when we have children, I think I will just completely use his last name, but I'd like to get used to it first.

Hello

For any of you brides who are changing your last name, i'm hoping you can help. Once we get home from our destination wedding how do we go about chaning our name? I've been told that legally you have 30 days to do this and you need your wedding certificate..........but i guess i wont be getting my wedding certificate until 3-4 months after the wedding. Does anyone know how this works? Thanks!!

I had thought about doing the hyphenated thing and then I realized that my FH whom has an X wife did that and as part of their divorce settlement she was allowed to keep the name UGHK So I either have to drop my name which I never wanted to do or have the same name as HER! Either way I wont like it I can only hope she gets remarried and loses that last name before we tie the knot! Any Ideas for me let me know!

I will be changing my name, but not because I am excited to do so. My dad died when I was young and i would love to keep his name which is simple. I will be trading for a complex name because I find hyphenating complicates things and i want to have the same name as my future children. Just some food for thought... My mom works in personnel and HATES hyphenated names because they frequently get misplaced and/or lost in the shuffle of paper work. I see her point and my sister in-law ran in to some probs with her hyphenated name on travelling documents last time we went to Vegas. it all worked out, but it was a pain at the airport.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
