I'm trying to make some decisions so I'm turning to all u jamaican brides!

We're getting married in Jamaica 6/6/09 and an at home reception 8/8/09. Who do you invite to the shower? just people whom are invited to Jamaica? or someone invited to either?

Also I gag at the thought of doing a gift registry, I've actually gone thru the motions but cant stomach the thought of people buying me things I really dont want/need. My fiancee and I own our home, and have lived together for 3 years, I'm perfectly content with the things I have, if I wanted something from bed bath and beyond I'll go get it, thanks! I've heard of donating to charity and people buying you things to do on your honeymoon ( a nice dinner, an outing etc.) Does anyone have any suggestions to a website that may correlate all that. There are some things that I would like, but I want people to use their creativity, I was hoping to compile a general list, but how do you avoid getting a million of the same thing?

Thanks so much for any suggestions you ladies can give!!!!

Hey girl.

I would invite more people to your shower then to your actual wedding. I would think you would want the people you are really close to be there for both, and then the people you are just friends with to be at the reception.

As for the registry, I am with you on that. My fiance and I have everything we need, I can go get whatever I want when I want it. I like the idea of donating to charity. I would just send out a note to your guests asking for donations to a charity instead of a wedding gift. You still may get a few gifts, but it won't be as many.

We had a small wedding..there were 6 of us in total. My mother threw a bridal shower for me and those that were not joining us in Jamaica attended. I think it's just one of those things that you have to have no matter where you get married.

As far as the registry, we registered with our travel agent and that was it.

I had a friend who had the attractions for their registry. I'll try to get ahold of her and ask her how the lay out went.. they had like the swim with the dolphins, dinner, spa, bike trip, day passes to other resorts.. things like that. It was pretty neat, and I thought a great idea! I'll get the info to you soon!

When you registered with the travel agent, was that to pay for the wedding or the honeymoon? Just wondering.

I had 3 showers (woo hoo), 2 for family and 1 with friends. They were mainly people who could not come to the wedding. They had been invited to the wedding and the AHR.

I would suggest registering somewhere. You can contact your TA to add things for your honeymoon - excursions, spa treatments, nice dinners, etc.

People will probably bring you a gift of some sort, at least for the shower, so you might as well get something you want/need. Don't forget about upgrades to things you currently own.

I had a friend register at Target for all cleaning supplies and consumables, shampoo, toilet paper, etc. Target is good because you can get movies/books/games, etc. that can be tied into a shower theme.

You can also register at Sears, Lowes, Home Depot. Your FI might like some new tools or it can help you get started on a redecorating or remodeling project.

You can also

For my shower my sister just invited the people invited to the wedding, they aren't all coming to the actual wedding but they were invited. As for gifts they had a "gift certificates only" party, I also have a house and an apartment so I really don't need anything, but then I got $1500 worth of gift certificates for all different places!!! I have just kept them and as we have needed something I went and used a gift certificate, it's great!!

I'm inviting all my friends to the shower.

Maybe try a Honeymoon Registry. A family members used one and we purchased an item off it for their honeymoon trip. I don't remember which one they used but there are several. Just do a google search. Here's one I found WeddingSolutions - Wedding & Honeymoon Planning, Wedding Dress, Wedding Invitations, Favors, Gifts, Cakes, Engagement Ring Check the fees because they all have different fees. Try to find one that do not charge your guest a fee to purchase a gift for you. Some will deduct the fee from your funds before they are disbursed to you.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
