Trying to choose a new Resort

Recommended Posts

Ok so I am a little up set...

My FI and I had chosen to get married at Dreams Punta Cana Resort & Spa for Jan 2010. No we hadn't firmed a date yet or booked anything because the prices are not out yet, but we knew Dreams was where we wanted to get married and Jan was the month. We sent out save the date kind of things... With no specific date but that our wedding will take place in Jan 2010 at Dreams. This fine and good. Everyone received their STD's and they looked great. We were happy and excited to start getting some firm prices very soon.

Then a friend's daughter of my FI's family was in a wedding at Dreams and gave us a review and said it was horrible. Now we are choosing a new place because friends my FI parents wont come to our wedding if we have it at Dreams..

Now its back to the drawing board...grrrr..

Its so hard to choose a place to get married...

I am freaking out a little...because its hard to plan anything if you don't know where you are getting married!!!!

I know lots of time to decide right??

But I am the kind of person who is very organized… I like to plan things out so I know what to aspect.

Anyway thatâ€s just me venting..

LOL

First things first, sorry this is happening to you. Secondly, prices are out, and have been for a while. I booked my wedding back in August 2008 and I'm getting married in January 2010. The schedules won't come out until April/May of this year but you can get quotes and the travel agent has to honour that quote when the schedules are actually released.

The good thing is that as you said, there is still enough time. Have you looked into Paradisus resorts? Majestic resorts? I've heard good and decent reviews from the Dreams... I went a few years ago to a weeding at the Gran Bahia Principe, nice resort.

ok, soooo I just want to make sure you aren't changing your plans BECAUSE of friends of your FI's parents. That seems a bit bizarre to me! Unless they are his Godparents or something, but in my opinion, that's giving these people waaay too much power over you! It's your wedding, and YOUR decision where YOU get married. Unless there were like 20 bad reviews, that would be something different, but I have heard many positive things about that resort, so maybe it was just a one-off bad experience?

We got married at Ocean Blue/ Ocean Sands (through Air Transat), and it was AMAZING. Not one problem at all, and we were there for two weeks! BUT someone else from here got married there and didn't have the most positive experience. It wasn't BAD, but could have been better (according to her expectations), KWIM?

Anyway, is there a reason why this couple's input is so important it makes you want to change your whole plan just for these 2 people?

BTW, I'm just up the way from you in Brockville!! wink.gif

There are a lot of girls that were married at Dreams in PC and had a good experience but i can understand why you would be a little turned off now. I got married at the Paradisus Palma Real and had a really great time (all my guests did), if your interested in that resort and have questions you can pm me. I would go to the wedding review section and look through all the resorts you are interested in. There should be a lot for the Paradisus Punta Cana, a couple for the Palma Real, there are def a lot of dreams ones on there, Debs was married at Ocean Blue and has her review on here, etc. check them all out and see which peek your interest. I'm sure you'll find exactly what you are looking for. And you really do have plenty of time. Once you choose a resort definately reserve your date asap. I know the paradisus resorts only do one wedding a day so their dates book up fast and i'm sure there are other resorts that are the same. Goodluck!

I hope you aren't changing plans for the wedding that YOU and FI in order to please potential guests.

But regardless, there are many fantastic resorts in Punta Cana. We LOVED Paradisus Punta Cana and are planning an anniversary trip for next year b/c so many of our guests want to go back!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
