Comfort of Halter dress?!?

I just returned from my seamstress to have initial measurements taken before I order my dress.... It is Demetrios Style 944- Halter top all lace mermaid style. She told me to rethink the dress becuase she's had several brides with halter tops uncomfortable after wearing the dress for several hours due to the "weight" pulling on the back of your neck. I never thought of this and now am re-thinking the dress, although I love it. My dress isn't that heavy (I tried on many much heavier) but we are having two "weddings" so I will wear it alot and am worried it's going to be uncomfortable.

Anyone have experience or advice? I really don't ever wear other halter style clothes so I'm not sure how I'll feel after having it on that long. Is it something to actually worry about, or not really? Was anyone uncomfortable becuase of a halter top?

Well I find the pulling really all depends on how tight you "have" to tie it. Bigger breasts require a bit more pull then smaller ones.

I wore a halter and it was fine but I have a small chest... sorry I am not much help!

Mine was halter too and I had no trouble. It wasn't a tie though - it had hooks. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Mine had hooks too and I didn't even feel it on most of the time it was so comfortable

I think it depends on your chest size... I am a DDD and sometimes if I wear a halter dress ( I just wore one to a wedding in the summer) my neck hurts a little at the end of the night... nothing horrible mind you... But even if you are like a C or D, it shouldn't be bad... my boobs are too big, and if I can deal with it ( I can be a whiner wink wink) you totally can!

I think it depends on your chest size and the weight of the dress. When I wear halters it usually bothers me so I picked a sp. strapped dress. Maybe try on your dress at home and wear it for about 1 hour to see how you feel.

If your dress fits properly, and you get the right undergarments, you won't have any problems. It's not so much the weight of the dress itself, as the weight of your boobs that it's supporting.

 

I don't know how busty (hee, that word cracks me up), but I"m not small. And I was totally comfy in my halter. It hooked in the back.

 

Some tips: if it hooks, don't make it hook so tight that it tugs at your neck. Keep it comfortably loose. If you're standing on the alterations platform and you can feel the pressure of the halter on your neck as you turn your head from side to side, it's probably too tight. When you get alterations done, you put the dress on, position it around and then they pin it. It's not going to sit just like that for the duration of your wedding day. It's going to slide and shift, so if it's tight now, it will be really tight while you're dancing the night away.

 

Technically speaking, the halter (the part that goes around your neck) is NOT supposed to hold your boobs up. That is the purpose of the bodice. If you have to, consider having your seamstress put some boning and semi-rigid cups in your dress. You have a mermaid style so those alterations will be in keeping with your dress.

 

Alternatively, get a good bra with a small halter strap that can hide under the halter of your dress. Or even have the seamstress put a strap on the cups in your dress.

I have never had a problem wearing halters; I have always found them comfortable.

I agree with the others, it may depend on your chest size, undergarments and dress construction.

I'm fairly chesty & have trouble wearing halters...but that is mostly because the shirt/dress tends be holding up the "ladies". If you support them properly without the dress then there should be no problem! If you LOVE this dress then don't let something small like this sway you from it!
