Not the reaction we hoped for...

Recommended Posts

So tonight we met FI parents for dinner to talk to them about the wedding. We decided we would like immediate family and a few friends there. My parents will not be in attendance due to one being passed and another estranged.

Their response.....who is watching your dogs? We told them a friend would be watching them at our house. Than they said, well we cant go. And we said, why? They said, we cant leave our dogs.

Silence.

And FI said, that is the excuse you give? That is unacceptable. Someone in the family can watch the dogs. Geez finances could of been a good reason, but the dogs?

So after a very long period of akwardness, they said well we will discuss it later, and look at our finances and get back to you guys.

I was speechless. Absolutely speechless. Especially since this is their only child.

Oh no! That is terrible. Our DW was not what everyone wanted to hear but once we made the decision and gave the parents a few days with it, most of them got on board and excited about moving forward with the planning process. Only my mother has been draggin her feet but I am sure (at least optomistic) that she will also eventually get there too.

They are very involved in his life. He goes over there one day a week after work. We meet them for dinner all the time. We take our dogs over there on the weekends and spend the day there.

What is crazy is what changed my mind on the whole inviting people was due to a comment his stepmom said. (This is his dad and stepmom we talked to tonight. His mom passed away about 10 years ago.) On Christmas we were talking about the location with some of his family, and his stepmom looked at his dad and said....wouldnt it be wonderful if we could join them in Sanibel. Than looks over at me and says, Sanibel is the first vacation that the three of us took that I felt like we were truly a family.

After she said that, I said to my FI, we have to invite them.

That is why Im so shocked by this reaction!

OMG

That reaction was unacceptable. I am sorry you had to sick through that awkward situation. I can't believer you were able to sit quietly, I don't think I could have done it. If I was able to sit without saying anything I think my body language would have said it all.

I would give them a few days, if they don't come around...what can you do. When you are having your first child they will probably be busy washing their hair. HAHA

Everything will work out.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
