Guest List Advice

Recommended Posts

So as my FI and I are trying to get a guest list together for our wedding, we are running into some roadblocks.

We defintely want our immediate family there, but are feeling very conflicted about chosing close friends to invite vs extended family. We want to keep the max. guests attending to 20. And we really would like some of our close friends there over our extended family. I know that sounds horrible. We are nervous on how that would go over. I know its our wedding, and we should invite who we want, but I dont want to hurt feelings or cause drama in our families.

Did any of you deal with this? How did you handle it?

We totally had this same issue. Except we aren't limited to 20 people, which makes us look even worse. We chose only immediate family and then friends. No extended family. This is because FI hates one of his aunts and one of his cousins and didn't want them at the wedding...and he was told by his mother he had to choose all or nothing. So we (he) chose nothing. This has caused major drama in the family, but we're just assuming they'll grow up and get over it at some point.

FI and I are definitely doing things the way WE want them, maybe to a fault. But that's just how it is. We don't see why our wedding is such a big deal to so many people...it's just a wedding! But I guess it is a big deal to some. I think most couples make decisions to avoid drama which is probably good. But we didn't. I don't know if this has helped you at all but I just wanted to let you know that if you do decide to only invite friends and immediate family, you won't be the only "evil" bride&groom out there! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
