Birth Certificate with Apostille - Canada

Recommended Posts

Could someone help me understand what an apostille is? I am a Canadian citizen getting married in Cancun in April, and I am wondering what else is required other than my original birth certificate, passport and tourist card. Do I need something else to confirm that my birth certificate is valid? If someone could help me, I would really appreciate it.

I replied to you in the Dreams Cancun thread too but here is what I said, hope it helps...

Not at all a silly question and it is a little confusing. If you chose to have your legal ceremony at DC you will need to have your documents apostilled. What this means is that your State certifies that it is an original document. They basically verify that the person who signed it is legitimate and all. I tried looking it up for Fredericton NB but didnt have any immediate luck. Do you have anything equivalent to a Secretary of State department? Thats who did it for me.
Check out this site about the apostille in Canada, it may help...

Thank you guys for your help! Sorry for the delay in responding. The last word I received from the wedding coordinator at Dreams Cancun regarding this was that I didn`t need the apostille, and that I could just bring my passport, birth certificate and tourist card. She said she had checked with the judge and that this was fine. All that being said, I still went ahead and contacted a notary lawyer to be on the safe side, who prepared a letter notarizing the birth certificates. I am planning to scan this to see if that was what she was looking for and will take the originals with me.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
