Majestic Colonial or Elegance Brides Post Here

From what I have recently heard is that you are correct, that if you do not do the open bar then your limit is 2 hours, which is 10pm. If you are doing a private dinner at the Parrot, Wet Bar, Beach and you get the minimal drink list (beer, wine, softdrinks) you can have it until 11.

I am at the Majestic in about a week so I will ask then to double check and see if there is any way around the 2 hour/10pm rule.

My Fiance brought up an interesting question.... we would like to do a private dinner at the steak house because they set the private dinners outside and its a really nice area and because we don't want to have to move around so from place to place and we can stay put for dinner and party. But since we are paying for the wedding ourselves we can only afford 30 people max for private dinner, well problem is we're expecting about 50-60, and that's after narrowing the list down. So his question is, can we do the private dinner for 30 outside as a "Family Dinner" and the rest of the people can eat on the inner part as the included dinner, and they are basically going to be seating just 4 feet away. And when we are all done eating everyone can hang out in the same area. We plan on using the bar that is right there instead of having an open bar because I believe its open until 11pm.

Has anyone thought of this or done this? Josh, if you have not seen this done before can you ask if its possible when you go down there?

Would anyone be able to tell me about the private dinner at the restaurants. I know that having a basic dinner at one of the restaurants is free, but I have seen a few comments on here about having a private dinner. Does this cost extra?

Also I am wondering how the tables are set up at the restaurants. I have seen a few comments that they have a nice set up at the restaurants. Are you girls bringing an extra decorations? Is it neccessary?

Khomac- I just talked to Maritee about how late groups can be at the Parott Bar. At the Elegance you can only stay at the Parrot Bar until 10:00 if you do not buy an open bar. She did not seem too lenient at all about this. We are having our wedding late (6:00) so I do not expect we would be able to finish dinner and get down to the bar before 9:00. It seems pretty costly for one hour!

If you have a private restaurant dinner, then it is outside on the patio. You do have to pay extra for it.

As for restaurant setups and decorations, my friend had only 12 guests so the table was small and intimate. I thought it was perfect. 2 people on each end, and 4 on each side. Her $1750 package included this:

Keep in mind this was Jan '08 so maybe things have changed. This centerpiece was during the document signing. I believe the co-ordinator brought it to the steakhouse for the "free" reception dinner.

In the very center, they had a martinin glass filled with green water, with the Majestic's red votive holders surrounding it, in a fancy napkin display. It looks like they added another centerpiece at no extra cost, and the Majestic also provided the rose petals, and sea shells as the table decoration.

I don't know if they always have these things on hand or if they are leftovers from other brides.

Ya, I'm not impressed with the times either. You don't want to rush yourself through dinner and always have to be worried about the time. I am considering signing the documents on another day when the judge is on site, then just do a symbolic ceremony on the actual wedding date. This allows for more flexibility in times as you don't have to wait for the judge to be available. You might then be able to have your ceremony at an eariler time.

Are you talking about at the Elegance or the Colonial? I have never seen a patio at the Elegance steak house. The only private location that I have seen there is a room to the side with large round tables.

If you are talking about the Colonial then again I haven't seen an area for a private dinner at the steakhouse unless you are talking about the beach location.

I just need a bit more info and then I can answer your question or have the question prepared for when I go next.

Private dinners do cost extra. At the Elegance I have seen three different setups for private dinners.

1. Parrot Bar. This is a buffet style dinner.
2. Wet Bar. Same as Parrot Bar but accommodates more people
3. Steak House. There is a separate room in the steak house where you can be on your own. This is for bigger groups as well. The normal steak house dinner for about 30 is actually pretty private. You are separated by a big wall and it feels very intimate.

I'll start looking through my files now to find some photos of each.

I don't want to slow down this thread with a bunch of photos (snapshots) so I will just post links to them:

This is the private area in the elegance steakhouse:

For this setup, they had 4 tables of 8-10 in the corners of the room and then the middle was the dancefloor:

Josh,

I am talking about the Colonial. On either sides of the big Palapa both Rodeo Grill and Tres Calaberas have an "outer area" that have like pergolas that look like the ones at the wet bar and parrot bar made out of wood. Maritee told me that the only way to use those outer areas at Rodeo and Calaberas is to have a private dinner and they would bring down the curtains to privatize the area from the rest of the guests and you can have the dancing and cake there too. Its not on the beach. I assume not many people have used that area for private dinner because when you look at the options they make it sound like Rodeo and Carabelas are only for the "free dinner" option. So my question would be can we have lets say half of the people on the outer area for private dinner and the rest on the inner part for the "free dinner" with the long table like they usually set it up there and then after everyone eats everyone gathers at the outer area for dancing, cake cutting etc.

I hope you can understand what I'm saying. Like I said, you probably haven't seen anyone do private dinners there because they don't mention it as an option, but it is an option. It would be great if you could find that out for me, I would probably get a quicker response this way.

Thanks a bunch!

I understand exactly what you mean now, I will ask when I am there on the 9th. I actually have never heard of this being an option, but it must be something they only offer in the summer months because the wind would probably make it impossible during the winter months.

There are a couple things to consider with doing this, which I will ask for you.

1. Since you aren't getting the open bar, how late will they let you be there?

2. Do you care if the guests that are on the inside don't have the table set up like a wedding? If you don't mind then basically it would just be set up for a large reservation at the steakhouse.

3. The price breakdown of doing this. For example - are they charging you so much per dinner and then a rental fee for the overall space?

I am actually quite surprised that they let you use this space for dancing, cake cutting and a general party. Its surprising because it is so close to a bar. So I am going to ask for other couples if it would be possible to have the free dinner on the inside of the restaurant and then rent the private area for a couple hours for dancing and cake cutting. That way you can have an area for private dancing which is right next to a free bar.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
