Majestic Colonial or Elegance Brides Post Here

Hey Guys - I just got an email confirmation that I can have my wedding on Dec 29 2009. I am excited - looks like this resort is beautiful. I have been working with a travel agent but my TA has told me that she can't book any travel yet because the prices for Dec 2009 aren't available yet...how have you other ladies been able to book your travel already?

Also, I would love to hear about different options you have all chosen for your reception/dinner etc. I was really surprised by how much an all-inclusive charges for an open bar/dance...I am planning to do dinner in one of the restaurants (don't know which one yet! - Suggestions??) and then I'm not sure what to do...I would like to have cake cutting/dancing as a group but I don't want to pay a ton...Any suggestions/advice would be great!

Thanks! -Stephanie

Hey Stephanie,

The steak house is great for the meal part of the reception. Not completely private but you are well separated from the others.

A good option for after would be to book the Parrot Bar for the cake cutting and some private dancing. Go there for a couple hours, and then anyone that wants to dance further head off to the disco.

Also, if you're looking for something a bit different, check out the Jellyfish Restaurant. Its off resort, great food, decent prices and unique.

Stephanie

I was able to book my travel for my Nov 09 wedding already it was a pre-booking rate and once the actual rates come out we get the price we already booked at or if the actual price comes in lower we get that price. We are having our dinner at the Steakhouse and then we rented The Presidental Suite to have the reception in. We are not getting the open bar and private dinner because it is just too costly. Good luck with all your planning!

Congrats Stephanie! Will you be getting married at Colonial or Elegance? We are getting married at Colonial (which is also where my fiance proposed!). For our reception we are doing dinner at the steakhouse - I've seen pictures of how they set up the tables, and they look absolutely gorgeous - and then renting the Parrot Bar for dancing/cake cutting/speeches. This was the way to go for us because we cannot afford the expense of private dinner/open bar (especially at an all inclusive?!). The Parrot Bar is only $ 300, and they set it up beautifully. There is a bar located in front of seafood/steakhouse restaurant that is less than 1 minute away from the Parrot Bar, so that should be fine in terms of keeping us and our guests nice and hydrated, hehe. Since I've been to Colonial before, I am completely confident that the restaurant bar is close enough to Parrot to not warrant an open bar. We'll probably hire the DJ for our music. I can't wait - is it August yet!!?

Thanks for all the info guys - that sounds like a really great option to have the dancing in the Parrot Bar. I will have to have a chat with my TA about the pre-booking business. Also, I received an email confirmation from Maritee for our wedding, is this all you get?? Eek - I am worried about showing up to this resort and them not having any record of our wedding, should I call and speak with the WC as well right away? I am sure I will be working with them for the coming months, I just want to make sure I get my date booked now!

The ceremony is apparently going to be held at 3 pm - I am thinking of using the Gazebo, is it any more private than the beach? (PS - I am getting married at the Colonial). Is this a good time of day for it? It seems good to me...but I have never done this before, or been to a DW, so I just want to make sure...

ONE more thing, I wanted to have a civil ceremony but I was unsure I could make it work given that my FI and I only have a limited time off, is it true you NEED to be in the DR for 3 business days before you can legally get married there? If so...I think I will do a symbolic ceremony, just wanted to see if anyone has been able to get married there legally WITHOUT being there for 3 business days. Thanks so much for you help -Steph

Hi Steph!

No, there is no required time you have to be in the Dominican before you can legally get married there. I think 3 days is a requirement for Mexico but definitely not the Domincan!!

You might find this website helpful: DR Embassy

It's a list of the legal requirements for Canadians to get married in the Dominican

Also, if you are a member of facebook, there is a FANTASTIC group called Majestic Colonial Brides: Majestic Colonial Brides!!

and in particular a thread that deals with the top 10 questions their wedding coordinators get asked 10 Most Popular Questions Majestic Brides Ask

Hope this helps!!

Thanks again guys - I'm so glad my friend told me about this forum. I did join the FB group too, so many discussion/photos to go through - looks like I will have lots to keep myself occupied!

One more potentially stupid question, I have not been to this resort - is the Rodeo restaurant the same as the steak house that you've all been talking about? This is the venue that I have reserved a table for on the wedding, just wanted to make sure.

Yes the Rodeo and The Steakhouse are the same restaurant. Good luck with all your planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
