Help! Back to square one!

My fiancee and I just got back from the Riu Santa Fe for a site visit, and without getting into details, we were pretty bummed. I think what sealed the deal for us was the most UNFRIENDLY wedding coordinator (Erika). I don't think she smiled once during the 20 minutes we spent with her, and was disorganized with any photos or additional info we asked for.

I'm not posting to bag on the Riu because I know everybody has their own taste/needs. (although if you want to png me feel free!) But I am stressing since now I'm back to square one to find a resort! We like the appeal of an all-inclusive, and I know a lot of girls on here are going with Dreams, but has anybody been to Melia Cabo San Lucas? From what I see on tripadvisor it seems slightly more private (only 300 rooms as to the Riu's 900!!) and further from town which is kind of appealing.

Thanks in advance for any help or info!!

I do have some pix of the resort here

Oh no, that is too bad. I feel like any resort should be happy to have your business in such tough economic times. I hope the next resort turns out better for you.

I have heard the the Melia is beautiful but more of a party scene for younger people in thier 20's which would be great for my firends but my parents and thier friends .. that just would not work out for them.

There are two Melia's the ME and the Real. ME is downtown and young. The Real in past dreams closer to San Jose. And is the AI.

Sorry that Erika didn't do it for you. In her defense she is very over worked. She also works in the restraunts at night. She may not be overly friendly, but she got me everything I asked for. The riu it self isnt as big into the weddings as dreams. If there is something you want you have to specifically ask for it.

Good luck with your planning.

Don't forget to check out EDR!

Did you ever get a chance to go see any of the other resorts while you were down there?

Also, we ended up swinging by the Riu Palace in front of the Santa Fe. It seemed a little nicer, but of course we weren't able to eat in the restaurants.

I would give the Riu Palace a chance. Ive stayed at the SAnta Fe twice, i love it there, mostly because of the great deals i got. Im going with the Palace because of the level of service, it is better suited for my older crowd who will be attending. I met with both Daniella at the palace and erika at the Santa Fe. That sealed the deal for me, daniella was great, organized, showed us around, pics.

I looked into Dreams as well, i have a large group of friends coming who love to party, since the Riu is 24hrs it wins. I know alot of people who go to Dreams go into town but i dont want to force my big drinkers to spend that kind of money - Cabo isnt like other destinations, there is no pay $10 at the door and drink all night. Drinks are pretty expensive in Cabo - it adds up quickly.

Thanks for the responses! I'm glad there have been positive experiences with the Riu, but you can definitely tell weddings aren't their selling point. Not being able to make a reservation at one of the restaurants for a welcome party seemed weak, especially since all our guests would be staying at the hotel and have to eat somewhere! Also the beach wedding location wasn't very attractive or private (directly in front of the bar & pool, where at the time kegstands were taking place) Oh well maybe I'll just have to fly back to check out more resorts :P

PS Mandy I haven't ruled out EDR!!!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
