This thread is great, thanks to everyone for posting their info. I have RPTB on my short list so this is super helpful. I had been wondering if it would be feasible to have some people staying at the Riu Negril (for cost reasons) and some at the RPTB (i.e. give people a choice). I understand that being at RPTB gives you privileges at RN but not the other way around - does anyone know if the beach at RPTB is open to RN-ers at least? If there would be a 100US charge per person to bring people over from RN for the wedding day, it starts to seem like a silly idea to have people at both. Does anyone have any comments?

Deavah,

If you are booked at the Riu palace tropical bay you have the same rights and privileges at Riu Negril. Riu Negril guests are only allowed on property at the RPTB if they purchase a guest pass which is $100 for adults and $50 for children.

I hope I answered your questions.

Hello,

I have received a quote for a wedding in January 2010 at Riu Tropical Bay - it came out to $2100 plus tax (CDN) per person from Toronto, and $2300 from Calgary. (all-inclusive, flights included)

This price seems quite high to ask of wedding guests for a week in Jamaica.

I recently spoke to a travel agent who mentioned prices may drop in April/May for a January 2010 wedding - does anyone have any advice on when my guests should book, and by how much the price might drop? I'd be interested to hear if you have had a similar experience, and what your guests ended up paying (DM me if you would like to keep it private).

Thanks!

Hi Majortomm,

Yes, that was the group rate. It seems like the only upside to a group rate is that you get a free booking with every 16 or so people booked (can't remember how many exactly).

I'm not sure where else to look - any suggestions for other resorts in Negril that would not be too $$$$?

Hmm...those prices seem WAY high compared to the quotes I just received from my travel agent. I would do some more asking around if I were you. The prices I received for basic level (garden view) room, 5 nights, all-inclusive w/o airfare was around $900pp, 3 nights was around $575pp. Airfare will probably be around $300 RT. Most of our guests will only stay 3 nights, so that puts them right around $800 for their trip.

Hello Ladies, I see some of you discussed why you chose the Palace over RIU Negril, but I was wondering why you chose Negril instead of Ochos Rios and Montego Bay? I'm having a hard time making my decision! I don't want a beach wedding. I want a Gazebo, so I e-mailed RIU using there contact form and asked them to send me a picture of their wedding gazebos at all 4 RIU Hotels in Jamaica. So far they only sent the picture of the one in Ochos Rios and I don't like the look of it! So, I will probably make my decision based on the Gazebo. lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
