What happens during the legal courthouse ceremony?

The form we filled out does say "non-legal/vow renewal" so they may group them together in terms of not requiring special paperwork, judge, etc, but we're doing a spiritual ceremony & we put down a deposit on one of their wedding packages. Does that answer your question?

For those who went to the courthouse/JOP, do you get to take all of your paperwork home with you that day, or do you have to wait for anything to be processed and mailed to youhuh.gif

We're trying to plan how far in advance of leaving for the DW we need to go to the courthouse at home.

We are doing the courthouse legal stuff today.  I am not thinking of this as my wedding and instead it is just the paperwork.  I am not changing my last name until after our DW in Mexico.  I just dont want to have to jump through all of the loopholes while we are in Mexico.

That is a great question KimmyG....

How far in advance are you ladies planning on going to the courthouse before leaving for your destination wedding? I would like to do it as close to when we leave as possible. But would I need to bring the legal paperwork with me to the resort in order for them to do the blessing ceremony? How long does the paperwork take?....I have got some homework to do...

Thanks ladies!!

We are planning on having our "legal" ceremony the day before we leave for Mexico but not exchanging rings.  We'll consider the ring exchange our actual marriage.  If we are required to exchange rings in NJ (not sure of the law), then we will probably just get cheap fake ones.  I know we need a witness, so I'll probably have my dad come and then we will go for celebratory drinks after.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
