the question is what kind of dress do you have... as long as your dress is comfortable enough for you to party in definately wear it... if it is very formal and your gonna be worried about it... maybe do something different.. but if you can move easily in it, it's not to hot, and you can dance.. why get a different onehuh.gif

You will be fine wearing your dress again. It's not like everyones in jeans and your in a ball gown... it's your party.. and your wedding party... no one is gonna question if you wearing your dress... and if you like being the center of attention... nothing is funner than being all dressed up looking your best!!

it's your night.. enjoy it to the fullest, don't let anyone question or be 'debbie-downers'.. hehee

AHR! I am a supporter.. we had our wedding in Playa Del Carmen Feb 21, 2009 and since we live in MN we decided to have an AHR in June for all the family and friends who could not come with to Mexico. The AHR is going to be simple... late start time 630-7p with appetizers, drinks, cake, and dancing. Many of our family and friends were thrilled that we are having something at home... I am wearing my dress again and all the bridesmaids/groomsmen are wearing their clothes again! Can't wait! I think it is a great idea.. we made it apps and drinks only because the cost was outrageous for two full receptions... no matter what it is you and your hubby's day.. do what you love!

We are going to have at sort of AHR. It is going to be right smack in the middle of where I am from and where my FI is from. It is going to be in a small, and I mean a small town...or should I say ghost town (FMIL home town). Let's just say that our guests will either have to camp out...or stay in the next small town over. I contemplated even doing it, but my FMIL and her sister (future aunt) are paying for it and I know that it is very important to my FMIL. I am not sure how many people will be attending, and that is why I am contemplating wearing my dress again. I also doing a TTD session and I am wondering how my dress is going to look after I get it dry cleaned. I am leaning toward having everyone wear their dresses and attire...shoot they are paying enough for it might as well get some use out of it. But do you think that the number of guests should determine if we do/do not wear it?

I too am in a predicament about whether to do the AHR or not.

We recently (April 21st, 2009) got married in Jamaica. We originally said no to AHR because we wanted to put that money towards wedding things and have the best wedding down there we could since our guests (26 people) travelled so far. We thought about doing a backyard BBQ but even that was a maybe.

However, while the wedding (ceremony) was fantastic, the reception and rest of day were not my "dream" wedding (I haven't done a review yet, but I am working on it). We skimped on things down there to save money that made me unhappy after the time. I was left wanting more.

So upon arriving back home, DH said we can do whatever I want since he knew I wasn't 100% happy with the reception in Jamaica, I think he was thinking about just a backyard BBQ relatively soon (we even started thinking about menu - Jamaican jerk chicken, appleton rum and rum cake!), but the more I think about guest list, the more I realize my backyard is too small for what I picture! And I don't know if I could wear my dress again in the backyard! (although I really want to wear it again!)

So now I'm thinking about going bigger, and more formal. But that comes with a bigger pricetag, which defeats the whole purpose of doing things cheaper down south!

I'm torn.

I think you can still wear your dress if it's a backyard thing. That's what I did. We warned the guests that dress was casual but I also wrote on the website "feel free to dress up if you'd like to, the wedding party will be!"

If your backyard is too small, can you do it at your parents' or in-laws? If not how about some other outdoor location (a park or something).

I would warn you against getting too hyped up about your reception and having it make-up for your less than amazing wedding reception. In my experience, the AHR wasn't as fabulous as expected because I just couldn't get into the spirit that night (even though I had been so so looking forward to it). It just wasn't the same as the wedding day at all, not even close (not that I expected it to be, but I did expect it to feel special and I thought I was going to have an amazing time, but I didn't. I had fun, but just not as much as expected). If you haven't read my AHR review yet, I suggest you do, I include a lot of advice about the dilemnas you're having (although obviously you might not feel the same way, but you are obviously looking for advice so check it out).

I just added it in my siggy too (don't know why I hadn't done that before) so that it can help out as many ladies as possible.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
