Hi everyone! We were married at the Suites on July 19th, 2012.  It was so wonderful!  I'll share a few details and the link to our highlight video.  I start back teaching this week, so don't have time to write a full review, but feel free to PM me any questions! All in all, it was perfect!  Nicole and Tiffany REALLY know what they're doing! I was also getting frustrated with late responses, but I just typed out everything I wanted, and they followed it to the letter, and it was better than I ever expected!

70 guests

Tuesday- Welcome party on the beach with 2 hours of bonfire and national bar and mento band (loved it!- They set everything up nicely and people commented that they felt like they were in a movie!)

Wednesday- Nicole ran a rehearsal, then we had dinner at Calabash- delicious!

Thursday- Wedding day: The groom and I went with our photographers to the Rose Hall Manor for one hour of photos. This was HOT, but we love the photos.

Ceremony was at 5:30 on the beach- weather was very nice

6-7: Cocktail hour with open bar and Steel Pans Band on the beach- soooo worth it! This may have been my favorite part of the day

7-11: Private Reception at Aunt Ruby's- this was also HOT, but I didn't want to be indoors when all the Chicagoans came for the ocean! People would just step outside to catch a breeze, and the paper fans we passed out at the ceremony also helped.

DJ Kevan was awesome- I sent him some song ideas ahead of time, and he played them all.  We paid him extra to play until 11, which Nicole allowed.  It was the perfect amount of time, actually. I was really worried that 11 was an early ending, but some of us went on to the disco, but most people ended up crashing.

Hair- Mervina at the salon was great!  All my bridesmaids had their hair done at the salon, and everyone was very happy!

Make-up- We brought a Chicago area MUA with us.  She did 12 girls, and the make-up stayed in the heat.  She is great and available for travel: http://www.deannaraeartistry.com/

Photo & Video- We brought down Chicago photographer and videographer Heather Stone and her assistant, Kai.  They were amazing and captured 3 days of dinners, pool time, and of course wedding day.  They are also available for travel: http://heatherstonephotography.com/

Flowers- We used Tai Floral.  I wanted simple flowers, so we had only a draping of crystals with orchids on the back of the provided huppa.  That was it in terms of ceremony decor.  We got engaged in Madrid, Spain, so I wanted to bring some "Spanish" element into the day, so the bridesmaids carried Spanish fans and Tai Floral tied on some small flowers to the fans.  I was also very happy with my bouquet!  For the reception, we brought our own lanterns, paper flowers made from our favorite books (we are both English teachers!) in vases with votives for the centerpieces, and bookmarks for seating assignments.   We did not get anything from Tai Floral for the reception.

Best of luck to all the other brides! You will LOVE it there, and you will have a dream wedding!

I'm in love with this wedding video!!!!

Hi there,

Do you have a photo of the crystals plus orchids hanging at the back of the huppa. I saw it in your video and loved it but I can't find a picture of anything like it anywhere. Do you know how long and wide it is? I am going to order some Real Touch flowers off ETSY and since Tai Flora wants $100 for the crystal + flowers I wanted to see how much it would cost me on ETSY instead. Any help you can provide me would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

Regards, Jaqui

Hmmm, we didn't get our disc back yet with our photos, but they are uploaded on Pictage, if you want to try and find a photo of the huppa: http://www.pictage.com/1264495

I'm sorry to say I have no idea its measurements! That was the only thing in terms of decor that we ordered from Tai Floral.  We did not use the huppa Tai Floral originally quoted me.  For a "huppa draped in white with crystals and orchids" it was something like $300, but I said I was going to use the resort huppa included in the wedding package, which magically changed the price to $100.  So maybe you can ask the WC the dimensions of the resort's huppa? Hope this helps a bit!

Just sent it :) It was valid as of this past July.

I was there the same weekend we will be there next year, and I didn't notice any bugs.  I brought bug spray (among a million other things I packed) just in case, but I didn't even take it out.  I'll probably bring it to be safe because if it happens to be more rainy that month it may draw some bugs, but as far as providing it for guests (in your OOT bag) I wouldn't bother.

My wedding was in July and it rained the afternoon of my wedding. The mosquitoes were out of control.  I got around 30 bites in Jamaica.  As we were taking pictures at sunset the mosquitos were biting me like crazy.  The first thing I asked for at my reception was bug spray!!!

I feel your pain!

There is also a 3 hr minimum for the open bar. After discussing it with a few people we decided no to the open bar, all my guests agreed that's a rip off. I have heard from past brides that they did have access to drinks. I think it helps to keep in mind you are in a beautiful location your guests will enjoy themselves regardless. I have to keep reminding myself of that and what a past bride commented to not getting wrapped up with the small details as people don't pay attention...except us!  Keep to what is important to you and that might help...myself, flowers aren't so I'm just going with what Iberostar provide. An outside WC was, which is allowing me to enjoy my day (hopefully) stress free.

Hope that helps.

Hey Shauna,

Our flight is at 6 am the morning we leave, so we lucked out and are having half of our guests stay in a hotel with us at the airport the night before, so we will be handing half of our bags out there. The other half we have decided to just pay for the extra luggage and bring down there. I also went back and forht with the airport idea, I'm just not sure how well customs will take to us bringing in 15 bags, we also contemplated handing them out before we go into customs and just thought it may be a hassel that early in the morning. In the end, just do what is easiest for you. If you feel like you want to give them out at the airport, just send an email to your guests or call them before and let them know you will have something that they need to leave some room for in their suitcases/carryons. That's my two cents ;)

Hey Love,

I've been doing a lot of researching into decor etc, as I noticed the same thing you have in regards to the money adding up quickly. I've found some great websites for decoration if this is something your interested in. efavour.com is fantastic for table runners, tulle, centrepiece ideas, also found some tulle chairbows on ebay  50 for $20 (and you can sell these after) and I have found a few things on Etsy as well. We are paying for a suitcase of decorations to come with us and leaving the suitcase down there when we leave lol.  I would just priortize what you really want vs what would be nice to have. Like one of the other brides previously mentioned, no one will notice the small details and the wedding will be beautiful regardless. Your guests will have a great time regardless but if you are looking for a cost effective way, the DIY way is considerably cheaper. As for flowers and what not, unfortunately because Tai Flora is the only florist you can use, if this is important to you, you will have to pay whatever they want you to. They are doing a BEAUTIFUL bouquet for me for $180 (whihc isn't horrible but it would be much cheaper here), to save money there, my bridesmaids will be just carrying one Callalilly with a peacock feather, it's way chaeper than trying to do the smaller version of my bouquet. Just some things to consider

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
