For those who had guests staying off the property, how did you deal with inviting them to the welcome party and other events on the property. Did anyone pay for the offsite guests to come for anything other than the ceremony?
We are covering their wedding day pass but the other days they are on their own.

Thoughts? any previous brides have any suggestions?

I blocked 30 rooms at $100 each.  The deposit goes towards my room once all are booked or I can get the money back.  December does seem to get sold out and fast so if I were you I would block at least some rooms and tell people to book early.

And would they get it back or no? My guests would get all their money back except for $50 up until 60 days before we leave. My wedding is October 25th.... LindaR,

Talk to your wedding coordinator, they will usually send you a packet that includes options for your reception.

But some things you could do would be renting the Disco (must have 30 people for that), doing a bonfire on the beach (depends which day though since they have beach parties some nights - all depends which resort), or you could rent an area and have a Cocktail party where you could also hire a DJ.

I hope this helps!

  Like Court, I too paid $100 per room to block, and that all goes to my balance on my room when my guests pay their balance. You got a deal at $50 girl !!  You have to keep in consideration, for the resort to block 75 rooms for a bride at no or minimal cost would be risky as they can sell to other people, and there's always that chance that you don't book all those rooms and then the resort has to scramble to sell them. I know how you feel though .... it's such a huge up front cost when you're not expecting it. However, VERY VERY worth it. You will hear so many horror stories about guests not being able to book because the resort sells out, and this is one way to prevent that.

@JaciV2000

we couldn't wait for our guests to put down deposits, as it's an actual contract with our TA. The longer the wait, the higher the room rates go, so we just sucked it up and paid the $100 a room, signed our contract and now have piece of mind that our guests will get a room at a good price ... plus we get all that money back. If for some reason all the rooms don't get booked, we get the deposit for unused rooms back.

My travel agent is having everyone contact her for travel arrangements to take the stress off of us. We did save the date magnets and put her info on those. She is going to keep me updated when people put the deposits down. We just included in an insert with the magnet that the deposit is 50 per person and after that they are free to pay on it at their leisure so that is getting the ball rolling and our wedding is not until April 2014. People are fine with it. The only extra rooms we are paying for are our mothers because they will be traveling with the children so we put their deposits down with ours.

  Thats awesome!!!!!  Did you have a private reception? I am having mine at Uncle Tonys, but Im worries once the first dances, speeches and dinner is over there wont be much time for guests to mingle and dance? Did you feel there was enough time for everything? Thanks :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
