I just got engaged in Vegas last weekend over my 30th birthday!  I have been literally stalking this forum, specifically this thread, for about a year now.  My fiancee and I have been together for 4 years (in a couple days) and have always said we wanted a destination wedding, and being the planner I am, I thought I would get a head start wink.gif.  Am currently on page 140 and hopefully I will get most of my questions answered and not have to stress too much.  I just emailed IRHS and am hoping my date in February 2012 is open!!  Thanks ahead of time for your help and patience!!

I'll be at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Nov 11 - 18, 2011 and our wedding is booked for the 14th :)

Congrats!  Our group will be split between the Suites and Beach at about the same time - I might just come and check out your wedding 2 days before mine :)

We'd love to do this as well.  We're thinking of booking 2 weeks at the Suites, and hoping to get upgraded to the Grand after the wedding.  If not, we will try to pay the difference to get transferred. Our actual honeymoon will be shorter though - we plan to arrive a few days before everyone else (to get last minute preparations done and learn our way around the resort, and also to celebrate our 10th anniversary there on the 11th), and stay just a few days after.

I want to get away from everyone so we can have alone time and we also want to have our honeymoon at an adults only resort. Do you think if we stayed at the Grand, we'd still run into our friends and family a lot? So far our other choose is Couples Swept Away in Negril, but i'm scared that we'll get there and not like it as much as the Iberostar. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Those of you who are switching to another resort for your honeymoon - how are you dealing with the transfer?  Are you flying back?  AFAIK, it's hard to do two one-way trips to and from different resorts.  I'd love to hear how everyone is doing this part.

I just don't feel like 6 months is enough time to send out invites and have everyone book rooms. How long beforehand did yo ladies send out invitations?? Otherwise I'd have to send out invites that say  something like...Rates will be available in July, contact my TA for more information. Did everyone include the prices and whatnot in your invites or tell everyone that info later? I feel like i'm getting screwed on time because my wedding is in January, right at the beginning of 2012.

I already have a wedding package and date booked and my deposit down for our private beach wedding through TWJ so i'm not worried anymore about the coordinators lack of coordination at Iberostar but I was hoping we could book our rooms soon :( I just wanted to be able to give my guests as early of notice as possible so they'll have more time to plan and save money.

Hope this helps!

November rates didn't start to come out until the end of February, but we still sent out our STD's in January.  No one in our group wants to book this early anyway - prices are so high right now, I'm sure they will go down over the summer.  As long as we're booked about 4 months before, I'm not worried.  I've been watching prices since summer, so I roughly know what's reasonable closer to the date.

Congrats!  I was also stalking this forum a few months before we actually got engaged (9 years together :).  When we got engaged, I knew exactly what I wanted, and in 2 weeks I had the date confirmed, and within one month we had STD's sent out.  Good luck getting your date, and make sure to put it into your signature when you have it

Tina,

I emailed Tai Flora once to inquire about a bouquet I was interested in and the price they quoted was so outrageous, I went with real touch and haven't looked back.  Nicole told me by email that I can use the credit from my bouquet towards corsages and boutnierres for family.  I am not doing table arrangments since my party is so small.  So basically, I don't feel like I need them for anything.  When you said 8 weeks, it was like something knocked me upside the head! I feel like I'm all ready to go but I also have that feeling like I'm forgetting something.

It was the day before my birthday, he had me wait outside the hotel and pulled up in a limo, practically ran me over when I got inside and just blurted out the question :)  He was super nervous, I don't know why though cause I am positive I made it obvious that's what I wanted!

Now just waiting patiently for my reply that our date is open....this is nerve-racking!!    I thought a destination wedding was supposed to be a piece of cake haha!

Hi Ladies!

I'm going to be getting married at IRHB on June 20, 2011.  I just have a few questions that I hope someone can help with.

How many decorations/or what decorations did you bring down for your wedding?

Has anyone or will anyone be sending packages down to the resort rather than packing them in a suit case?

I want my reception to be as "traditional" as possible.  Is it possible do so at IRHB?

Thanks so much!

Hi Elisa:

Welcome to the group and congrats on your upcoming wedding! I am getting married 3 days later at the suites, so it is defintiely crunch time with getting everything done.

The best advice is to literally read this entire thread. There is so much information on here, that most of your questions have most likely already been answered.

To answer some of your questions, I am defintiely bringing all of my "goodies" with me. I plan on putting stuff in my checked luggage, carry-on and then if need be, giving items to some of my guests to bring down with them.

As for shipping items keep the following in mind:

  1. the hotel will not hold anything for you
  2. it is very hard to get everything cleared through customs especially if you are not there to personally pick it up

You can have whatever type of wedding you want, it all depends on your budget.

Good luck in your planning!

Kecia

eholt I'm doing real touch as well so including the boutonnieres and corsages but I need the florist for the huppa.  Are you not decorating the huppa?

I'm clothes shopping this weekend and I'll send our notarized copies next week for the marriage license.  Oh boy what else are we missing?  Did you do OOT bags?  A part of me wants to do a small welcome bag but I don't want to have too much to travel with nor do I want to spend tons :/  We are taking all of the guest on a catamaran sunset cruise as a "thank you".

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
