I just got married at the IRHB in November and the beach is sandy and I don't remember seeing any pebbles. I never wore flips flops or shoes on it at all except when it got too hot.

I recently heard from a friend that her friend/family member went to this resort a few years back and the sand was actually more like tiny pepples and less like soft sand.. I haven't read/heard of this anywhere, and i've searched the trip advisor reviews as well as these forums.
Just curious... do you need water shoes?? I really hope not, I thought it was a really nice sandy beach, from what I've read it's about a km of beach at the Beach resort and there's very little seaweed but that it is cleaned up daily. No mention of rocks, pebbles, etc...

Thanks!!

Well, for all of you wondering what to do about your marriage license when you get back, I have an answer! (for those in Ontario anyways) I emailed the city of Toronto and this is my response....

Marriages are only registered in the jurisdiction that  the event occurred.  Your marriage is registered in Jamaica.  The only place you will "register" your marriage in Canada is on your Federal Income Tax Return for the year of the marriage.  You will simply indicate that your marital status has changed.

You will require the Jamaican marriage certificate for name change, banking and insurance purposes.

Hope this helps! Now I just have to wait for the marriage certificate to arrive....

Hi All!

Got a prompt reply form Silvia at the Beach today. She assures me that there is no other wedding going on. I have promised myself I won't even give it another thought. I don't know what exactly is going on with this other bride and I won't til the wedding day so why get all worked up. I'm not bothered by seeing other brides on the big day (Lindsay from the Suites and I will be having a dance party at the disco after our weddings!) I was just concerned about mix ups happening as these wedding coordinators do not deal with more than one event per day on a regular basis. Now.... I need a drink....

@ Nikadawn that is great to hear! For whatever reason people have created accounts on this site and they turn out to be vendors posing as brides etc so I wont be surprised if that bride you are referring too is a fake and has nothing better to do!

So I have not posted on here in a while but even though I decided to have my actual wedding off site I am still staying at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach. I did stay at the Suites back in May and got to tour the beach property as well so if you ladies have any questions ask away! I also took a ton of pics! So just let me know:)

Hi Delgadot,

After touring the Iberostar property, why did you decide to hold your wedding off site at Hummingbird Hall?

Thanks!

Hello Ladies!

Okay so we have been talking back and forth about how  the beach location told some of us that we have to rent the steakhouse and what not based on numbers.. and didn't communicate to us that we could not have a semi private dinner... When this was all happening, and i was told the same thing by Silvia, i emailed her back asking why we couldn't have a semi private dinner, being that there was no mention of that in any of our paperwork.

She just wrote me back.. a One liner email stating the following:

Hello Jennifer,

Of course you can have it semi private for 1 hour and a half for a cost of $400usd.

Regards,

Silvia McNeish

Can any past or current brides please tell me if you are also being charged 400 USD to have a semi private dinner?? All of the paper work i have states that a semi private dinner is free?!?!?  are they that hard up for money, or what is going on?  This is soo frustrating.. and i am not really sure what to do here... This is what i responded:

Hi Silvia,

I thought that it was free to have a semi private dinner? I didn't read anywhere that there is a charge to it now. Is this something new?

I thought we could have the following based on all of the paper work i received from you:

Semi private dinner for our 38 guests (FREE)

bonfire on the Beach for reception for 2 hours (500.00)

DJ for the bonfire reception (150.00 per hour x 2 hours = 300.00)

Open bar for everyone (over 15 people included in the bonfire price  = 7.00 per head)

Why am I now being told there is a 400.00 fee to have a semi private dinner?

I am sorry for getting upset here, but we are one month away from my wedding and it seems that all of these things are "coming up" that we were not told about... Why would i have to pay 400.00 USD to sit and eat dinner with other hotel guests that are not with our wedding? That does not make sense to me..

so basically you are telling me that our options are to either pay 400.00 for a semi private dinner.. or pay 800 to rent the steakhouse.. and that is our only option to accommodate my wedding for dinner?

Please advise,

Jennifer

I'm wondering if any past brides have had their reception at Calabash but requested food from another restaurant? I have a guest with a seafood allergy and Calabash is my only option for the amount of people I have for a private reception. I really wanted the steakhouse but since I don't have 50 people I can't have a private dinner.. Help!!!

Hi Ladies, I just got a prompt response from Silvia, on my email to her... this is what she wrote.. i know some others were facing this too, so i am posting this in hopes it helps others avoid the same panic i did!! ;)   Hi Jennifer,

For clarification; by semi private our interpretation would mean for 1.5 hours your group will be the only ones in the restaurant, which means closing out the seating that immediately follows yours allowing you to do toasts, and personalizing this. This would have a charge.

However, based on your comments this is not what you want which is fine. We can have the dinner that comes with the package with the standard set up for your group at no charge with other guests in the restaurant, for 1.5 hours with minimal décor, and personalization

Sorry for the misinterpretation

You should have just asked ME about it!!! (I assume you're talking about me cause my profile says exactly what you read) I'm not fake i promise! lol  I see we have the same wedding date, but yes mine is on a private beach nearby and yes our reception is at the Iberostar, but at the suites not the beach resort. (I believe you said yours is at the beach?) But don't worry I have my own wedding coordinator, I am literally not using the Iberostar WC's for anything, I don't even have their names or contact info! So I won't be bogging them with questions or anything like that, they're there for you 100%!

I know the one wedding  a day thing is a big deal to a lot and for good reason! But unfortunatly no matter where you go and what they promise, that won't be the case. Every 5star resort I've been to in the Carribean is always packed with weddings! I was in Punta Cana and they had 9 wedding in a day at our resort, one after the other after the other. I bet there will be a few more wedding than just us too. (off resort weddings) (obvs. cause destination weddings are awesome!!) But you will be the only bride on the beach during your ceremony don't worry!!!(well you damn well better be)  And if it helps put your mind at ease, we don't have a large group and will be at our ceremeony site until 6:00 and having dinner at 6:30 at Calabash. Good luck with everything and I hope this helps.

Oh yeah one more thing....Can I get in on this DANCE PARTY?!??!?!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
