mrstgun - You looked absolutely beautiful, and Marcia did an amazing job on your pics.  I think they're some of my favourites that I've seen from her.  It makes me so excited, because we have her booked for our wedding in 2 weeks!

I have tried to book Marcia. Have had a few messages back and forth with her but none lately and none since I said I wanted to book and asked what the next steps were. I know she's probably been busy with everyone elses wedding pictures but when should I start looking elsewhere....or should I just keep waiting....?

Thanks for any advice ladies :-)

I'm planning on the same thing for the cocktail hour.  I'll tell my guests to go to one of the hotel bars for drinks before the reception.  I don't see the purpose in paying for a formal cocktail hour when I'm paying to rent out a reception space (especially when they can grab free drinks nearby).  Also, as part of the ceremony package there's a champagne toast.

I was thinking of not having a formal cocktail hour and just telling my guests to go to the lobby bar for cocktails and perhaps have the steel drum band play an extra hour on the terrace outside the lobby bar. This would be way cheaper than paying a per hour and per guest fee for drinks and food during the cocktail hour.

That sounds a little odd.  I wrote to her a few days ago asking for prices and she emailed me back right away (within 10 minutes).  I would try again and then move on if she's too busy for new clients.  There seem to be several good photographers in the same price range in the area.

We are doing something similar.  Right after the ceremony we are having the complimentary champagne on the beach.  That only includes one glass per guest so I'm thinking it will last 1 hour.  Then the wedding party will go take pictures while the guests head towards the lobby.  Nicole said we could have the terrace all to ourselves without an extra charge.  We are going to provide the guests with appetizers and possibly a band but not drinks.  Nicole said that they can just go to the lobby bar for drinks.  The only reason we are having a cocktail hour is because we are getting married at 4:00pm and you can't get into Aunt Ruby's until 7pm.  Most people getting married do it around 5pm but we wanted there to be time for pictures before the sun went down.  4pm gives us some time for a late start if necessary as well.  Only downside is it leaves a gap between the ceremony and the reception so we figured a cocktail hour with some food would be a must for us.

Hey! I actually encountered the same thing with her...  which was unfortunate, because at the time I really wanted to book with her.. but never got a response on her even sending me her package pricing etc.. i had sent her like two emails.. possibly even three ( can't remember now for sure) and didn't get a response.. so i ended up moving on and booking Misha Earle.. I love her work.. and she worked within my budget.. and she ALWAYS gets back to me right away.. she is awesome!!!! The thing with me was.. although they are really busy.. it is still a business.. and you have to go with who makes you feel the most comfortable.. we as brides have ebnough to stress and worry about.. not getting responses is one of my pet peeves.. and i don't need that to worry about,  on top of everything else i need to worry about lol

I would maybe send her one more emial to follow up..and in the meantime.. look at other photographers.. and just choose the one that makes you feel the most confident and comfortable..  :) There is alot of talent in Jamaica from a Photography stand point.. and several of them are around the same budgetary wise.. so you have some choices! like: Misha Earle, Stacey Clark was another one i heard good things about, and Marcia of course also..  along with some others!! so you have some choices!!

Good luck!!

Hi, can you give me some names so I can research them since I had only been looking into Digipix, Marcia and Misha Earle. Misha is too expensive. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks ladies.

There's a few photos of the bonfire from both the Suites AND the Beach (they do them exactly the same) in the reviews section. We are doing the bonfire but our whole wedding is going to have a very casual feel. It sounds like you want something a bit more formal? Have you thought of doing the private rental of the disco for your cocktail?

Has anyone else done something like this? I know a lot of people are doing a bonfire but this would be drinks and dancing on the beach instead. The coordinator said they would set up tables and a bar... I'm just wondering what this would look like! Any info or photos would be greatly appreciated!

I am getting married at the Beach next year and will be going down next week to plan everything out. I plan on asking her about that I will let you know what I find out!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
