So all you get is a copy of the registry? What is it good for other than proof? I am starting to hear on other forums that it is not good for anything esp with Social Security Administration. Is that correct? I know Wendy had not received hers at 8 months...thats a bit long :( Has the copy of the registry they give you been helpful for anything Eholt?

No i am not certain :) to be honest i was just going by the writing on my wedding package from the WC where it said that if you wanted certified copies of them, to take home with you to let them know ahead of time.. that MAY just mean a copy of the reciept, they do say it takes a few months for the actual license to come in the mail.. but maybe you get a copy of the signed papers you sign on your wedding day prior to them processing it? i am not too sure...  it isn't clear.. and now reading everyone else's posts i am a bit worried!! i want to change my name fairly soon.. i don't want to wait 8 months!! lol

I think what you get may be something saying you have been married, but its not "official." The delay are the certified copies which are needed by the Social Security Administration (SSA). You must have certified copies to change your name with the SSA.

Here is the clarification:

You have to send your paperwork (passport and birth certificate) one month before the wedding so they can apply for the marriage license. So this part is done by them and we do not have to worry about the marriage license portion. It is done 1 month before we arrive. We then have to be in Jamaica 24 hours as a resident before getting married. On the wedding day the marriage officer has us to sign the wedding registry in Jamaica. We receive a copy of the registry (which serves as a receipt and proof that we are marred). Aftr that, the marriage officer gives the marriage registry to the register general (government officer) who will give our sealed certified copy of the marrage certificate (the real and legal deal), to the wedding coordinator (Nicole) to mail. I have real conflicting average times but I would say 2 months to a year based on my research honestly. Can be less and can be more time, it all depends on the register general. There is an expediated service I read that could possible speed up the proces a bit. We need the sealed certified copy of marriag certificate to change name with social security unless they aren't a dork and accept the copy of marriage registry we have. It's up to the discretion of the person is the DMV and SSA office. That is why some people are having problems with the copy of the registry they have and some arent. I believe the package info states 2 months, but it can be more or less time. I think the other factors involved besides the government being fast or slow is (marrital status, adoption, divorce, legal names, etc.). I was told if you are single, not adopted, and your last name has not been changed it may be faster for you because the government does not have to go through differnt departments like the divorce etc.

Although I have not been much of a poster, i have been an avid lurker of the bdw site. I was married at the suites on July 26th of this year, and it was amazing. What i am especially looking forward to is getting pictures back from our photographer. After looking at the portfolios and price lists of many different photographers we went with Misha Earle, and could not be happier with her work. Many people in our wedding party and interested in varying degrees of photography and were impressed with her fun professionalism and picture setups. If you are still looking for a photographer, please please PLEASE  go take a look. She is worth the bit extra money.

As for dindin...Calabash was fab, great food that even the foodies were happy with. We paid extra for wine, so it would not be the house stuff which i think complemented the meals perfectly. We didnt privatize the Calabash so we had the 800 to play around with. Because of the way we laid out the tables, in two rows, and where they positioned us, we didnt see any of the other guests. Perfect.

I could give a formal review, but i do feel that they get a bit repetitive.. we all know its a great place, that is why we chose it!

ohhh, one thing i did that seems different than other brides: i went with the bridal package from the spa- $300. first off, i think it was one of the better facials i have ever had, and the pricing for that is over $100 in itself, so once you add a manipedi, hair and makeup on it...it all is quite reasonable.. my hair (without a test) turned out better than i could have imagined, and did not move in the high winds...i went with all up, and am very happy that i did. makeup, i thought was a bit on the heavy side..but then it started to settle in to the skin and was perfect. sadly i had a little bit of a tear fest in the room when my sister was adjusting one of my earrings (all of those happy bridal moments), and i kinda smeared my make up...makeup team met me at the beach to repair...Love them.

me thinks..thats it..

Is anyone bringing their own centerpieces ? I have had some quotes from Tai Flora for some floral arrangements and it seems like alot of money for the 3 hour reception. They want 80-100$ US for anything I picked out of their catalogue, and I emailed them and told them a budget of $60 per table and haven't heard back! I will have minimum 8 tables, I just don't want to spend alot of money on centerpieces, when we could spend that on the steel band instead. ($60 x 8 tables = $480, I can handle that for centerpieces, but $100 x 8 seems to be a bit much)

Can i recommend for you Jamaica Flower studio?

They used to have the contract with IBRHS, before they switched to Tai Flora..and i stayed with them due to their amazing communication.

Sandra has amazing communication and was really great working within a budget...Something i had originally picked was 100 a piece (EEK) which we were just not able to justify..but we worked together to find something that we really liked for 70 a piece.

i would say, try to be flexiable on your flower choices, and try to use local whenever possible to keep the prices down. we used a lot of ginger lily, and antheriums..we also had brought our own rose petals for a petal toss and had extra that we used for the tables...

They were so much more beautiful than i could have hoped for!

Sorry that i dont have pics of the actual centerpiece but here is one to give you the idea of the colours and flower type we used...

ALSO, Jamaica Flower Studio honoured the flower agreement from ibrhs re: bouquet, boutinear blah blah blah

AND, we didnt have to pay a vendor fee. Sorry for pic size..dont know how to make it smaller...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
