While you and andrew are visiting, could you please ask her for me how many people can sit on one side of the terrace of aunt ruby's restaurant?? We plan on having our reception there and I just want to make sure that all of my guests can fit on one side of the terrace. We plan on inviting about 125 people and expect 80 to 100 (if that many, its hard to predict since our wedding is still a ways away). I just don't want to over invite and we plan on sending out our save-the-dates soon. I see you are leaving tomorrow so hopefully you'll get this before you leave.

If anyone else happens to know the maximum number of people that can sit on one side of aunt ruby's for the reception please let me know.

Thanks!!
Nicole told us that each side fits approximately 100 people. This is using the rectangular tables, which fit 10-12 people each, and I think it is somewhat a tight squeeze for all 100. Not as many people can fit using the round tables, but I'm not sure how many. We're also expecting 80-100 people (still waiting on the RSVPs to come in) so we're trying to figure out if we should plan to use one side of the terrace or two. It would be nice to fit everyone on one side, but I don't want to cram everyone and I also prefer round tables. So I guess we'll have to see what the final head-count is.

That's what I've been trying to figure out... I would love to make the beach the dance floor, and that's what we may end up doing. I think my friends would love that but not sure if my older relatives will be into it, lol. But they have lighting they can provide on the beach, and also there are picnic tables on that part of the beach that I was thinking of putting paper lanterns on, so I think that would be really nice. For the first dance and dances with our parents, we may use the available space on the terrace since that shouldn't take too much room. I guess if we use only one terrace then we could use the other for a full dance floor.

The dj can be set up on the beach as well, and whether or not we use both sides of the terrace, that is most likely where he'll be. They told me that won't be a problem. There's actually a little massage hut on the beach in front of the restaurant that would make a perfect dj booth, but we'll see if it could be used for that :)

That set up sounds beautiful!!! I think a dance floor on the beach would be awesome! Definitely sounds like something I'd be interested in doing (didn't even think of it as a possibility!). Keep us posted on what you decide.

Yes, I like the idea of the dance floor on the beach as well! Only question i have is...during dinner, would you be able to hear music playing...bcz sometimes people dance in between courses and some people just wanna sit and eat and I would want everyone to hear the music. I know the restaurant is right next to the beach, but isn't there a walk path in between? That's my only concern...and of course if having the dancing on the beach is convenient for everyone.

One more thing, do you have to pay extra for lighting on the beach? or a dance floor?

also, would u be able to take a few pictures of the steakhouse for us. different angles of it and looking through to the ocean, etc. Also, where the dj would be if they were in the restaurant terrace and the beach. Where the dancing would be in comparison to where you eat, whether the beach or other terrace. I am going to have approx 80-100 people too, so I am in the same situation as you.

That's a good question... The space between the terrace and the beach is only the width of the walkway, which I would guess is 3-4 feet wide. So as long as the speakers are set up on the sand right in front of that walkway, you should be able to hear the music from both the terrace and the beach. I would guess that they have a set of several speakers so some would be pointed more toward the terrace and some more toward the beach.

When we were there a few months ago we took a couple pictures but none of them really show a good angle with both the beach and terrace sad.gif The terrace isn't elevated or anything, so you don't need to go down any steps. So the only thing that separates the terrace from the beach is a walkway that has a railing on both sides. I was planning for the dancing to be right in front of where you eat, so that the people still sitting down can still feel part of what's going on.

Found some good tips from a review on tripadvisor..thought I would post:

Great honeymoon destination!”

Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Hotel

RoNeh 1 contribution

Atlanta, GA

Jan 22, 2010 | Trip type:

"Iberostar Rose Hall Montego Bay has 3 hotels in one compound (total ~900 rooms): Grand, Suites, and Beach. Grand is the most expensive, Suites is in the middle, and Beach is the cheapest. If you stay at the Grand, you can also visit the Suites and the Beach. If you stay at the Suites, you can also visit the Beach. If you stay at the Beach, you cannot go to the other hotels.

No matter where you stay, you can visit the Disco bar and casino at the Grand at night. Someone who was staying at the Beach won a Jackpot on 1/17/2010.

Pros of staying at the Iberostar Rose Hall BEACH:

• Friendly staff and great service

• Warm beach

• Cool pool

• Drinks/food are served EVERYWHERE ANYTIME (be careful...if you don't want to gain too much weight :-) )

• Restaurant options: Japanese, Cajun, and Steak house. Making a dinner reservation was hard sometimes. If you can’t get reservations, visit these restaurants 10-15 minutes after the appointment times to see if there were any no shows, and you can take the open spot; i.e. for 6:30 p.m. appointment time, go b/w 6:40 and 6:45 p.m.

• Entertainment (ENT) staff is fun to watch! Although some of the things they do are repetitive, it is still fun to watch and participate. Experience the Magic Carpet if you can.

• Good entertainment stuff for kiddies…tennis, ping pong, soccer, etc.

• Dancing is fun at the Disco bar in the Grand.

• If you are celebrating a special occasion (birthday, anniversary, or honeymoon), make sure to let the Guest Service desk know about it. They send a cake/wine to your room.

Cons of staying at the Iberostar Rose Hall BEACH:

• Only 1 Guest Service desk. Have to wait in a line (sometimes a long line) to make dinner reservation. People staying in Grand and Suites get first choice, so there is usually limited amount of seats available for people who live at the Beach.

• Spa services are EXPENSIVE! $125+tax+tip for a 50 min massage.

• Hair dryers in the room take a long time to dry hair, and it gets really hot before it finishes the job! Recommend women to take their hair dryers from home.

• Mostly all gift items have “Iberostar” on them. Recommend going to the local craft market and negotiating prices for gift items. If all else fails, airport has pretty good gift shops as well…of course, you have to pay the airport price for each item.

• Rooms need clocks. Needed to know time to figure out if the dining room was open or not, but we couldn’t figure out time half of the time b/c forgot to take a water-proof watch.

Random observations/Experiences:

• Lot more Canadians at the hotel than Americans

• Lobby bar serves Heineken (not all the time though). Ask nicely and tip…if you want some good drinks and a faster service.

• Ask for white rum…it tastes better.

• Ask for premium liquor…otherwise you won’t get it.

• Visit the Hip Strip. Take a taxi from outside the resort’s gates. You will pay $4/person round trip compared to $55 roundtrip if the resort books a taxi for you.

• Recommend using a local taxi driver Morris...we met him outside the resort’s gates. He is extremely professional and courteous. He waited with us while we shopped around the craft market on Market Street, and drove us around Montego Bay.[--]

• Don’t get mad if you have to wait at the airport till the whole shuttle bus is full before it leaves the airport. We had to wait for 45 minutes!

• Depending on if you like to smoke Jamaican herbs or not…locals who sell the craft stuff next to the Beach are always smoking!

• Almost everyone told us that it is not safe to go outside of Iberostar’s compound after dark."

Thanks Lady D - $55 per person to go the hip strip is ridiculous! We will definitely make other arrangements or catch a taxi outside the resort.

I'm excited to hear the casino is open. When we were there they were setting it up and couldn't tell how soon it would be done. We only saw slot machines but I'm hoping they have a table game or two.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
