Thanks for the information! I thought Smokey Joe's on the beach like MoomBa. I would much rather be able to walk out on the beach/have a more "beachy" vibe at the welcome dinner, and I do love that MoomBa is very close to the Marriott.

Plus is super close to the Marriott. (I assume that since your wedding will be there, that you and the majority of your guests will be staying there, as well).

Smokey Joe's is further, though totally walk-able. It does have an outdoor patio area, but I wouldn't characterize it as an outdoor bar. To me, it seemed more like a Chili's/Friday's kind of place.

Keep in  mind, though, that I didn't go to Smokey Joe's while I was in Aruba. I am basing my opinion on location and the setting/structure of each place.

I'd def recommend MoomBa for a more beachy vibe. But you should feel comfortable and confident in your decision. Here are some links that you might find helpful.

  • 1 month later...

I used a DJ. If you decide to go that route, I'd recommend Tino.

Of course as soon as I hit "submit," I remembered some useful information.

My WC told me that even if you don't use the DJ for his services but need DJ equipment, the DJ would still be present as an equipment technician, and, therefore, would still be paid. (I asked because one of my guests is a DJ and I considered having him DJ the reception). So if you need an amplifier for your iPod, the same may apply. I would ask to make sure.

I decided that if I am paying the DJ anyway, it may as well be for his role as a DJ (and not a technician).

we went with ipod and hook up, and it worked out better than I thought it would. our guest were able to go up and skip a song if they liked, and i didn't care because I had at least an extra hour of music.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
