Sunset Jamaica Grande?

Recommended Posts

Hi allaboutodd,

Congrats! It's exciting to hear that your wedding and your trip was much better than expected... Though this has nothing to do with weddings, I was wondering if your siggy pic at Morgan State?? I ask because the field in the background and your husband look kinda familiar...

Yeah it sure is Morgan State. My husband went to Morgan and he is an Iota. You probably did know him - it seems everyone did!

And thanks, I think your wedding is what you make out of it. We wanted a very lowkey, simple wedding and that's exactly what we got and it was still as gorgeous as any wedding out there. Plus, Danny wanted to be in the heart of Ocho Rios so I don't think the other chain resorts would have worked for him.

Wow!!! It's such a small world... I really want to have something low key also, but my fiance is from Jamaica and has a lot of family there so I really am having a bit of trouble keeping the numbers low. This is one of the main reasons why I haven't been able to decide on a location. I have been toying with the idea of having only our out of town guests come to the ceremony and reception at the hotel, and then having a big party at his mom's house the day after for everyone in Jamaica. I just feel like this has become a lot more difficult than I thought it would be...

That sounds like a tough situation to be in because I can see the family from Jamaica being upset that they couldn't attend the ceremony. I think if you let them know why they should understand because it is $80 per person to even allow them on the resort and then an additional price for them to eat on the resort for your reception if you were throwing a real reception. My family and I didn't have a "real" reception. Since there was only about 10 of us and we were all staying at the resort, we opted to just have our first dance, father/daughter dance, and mother and groom dance at the ceremony site. Afterwards there was a short cake and champagne reception for those who wanted to say something on video. We then took pictures around the resort and had a sit-down dinner reservation at one of the specialty restaurants on site. It was simple but it was nice and with the amount of people we had it worked..

I think if you have family members in Jamaica - having a seperate celebration/reception would be more cost efficient and that way EVERYONE that wants to come can come to that. It's really up to you and what you decide to do..

Thanks SOO much! We def want the nightlife and shopping outside of the resort so I think this place will work out best. & we are also going for simple, we only have 7 or 8 people coming with us, so nothing else is really needed. I have been to a non-AI next to there before so I know the beach isnt the best, but I'm not really looking for a huge beach.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
