Having a baby after you turn 35 years old? Does age really matter?

My mom was 40 when she had me and she had no issues through the pregnancy. I was born on my due date (first and only time I've been on time for anything!) and was almost 10 pounds.

If your doctor causing pressure or doing more than just informing you, then I would switch doctors. Your doctor shouldn't be pushing you to have kids when you're not ready, and a good doctor would know better. Of course, your doc should still give you all the facts and info, but not in a way that makes you feel bad.

Add me to the list too girls...had my first and only child at 18 and now for the first time in my life I am getting married, April 28, 2010 and I will be 37, FI is 31 and we will try for a baby thereafter, YES, there are risks and they can be greater but in this day and age women and men take good care of themselves are happier, healthier, etc. etc...you will be fine and like another poster said, be sure to do all the necessary tests and prenatal care, you will be fine :) Good luck and Congrats!!!

THis is a great thread. I have struggled with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) for about 8 years now & actually glad that my ex-husband & I never were fortunate enough to have kids (he's not the nicest person) but now with my FI I would love to have kids. We are both 33 now and will be 34 after the wedding and our families have been on us for a year to try to have a baby before the wedding. We both agreed we didn't want to do that but I keep feeling old compared to my friends who had their kids in their 20's. Plus my ob/gyn doesn't think I will have a chance of getting pregnant without fertility treatments which can be rather pricey. We just figure we will see what we are given and if we can have our own we will adopt.

Just my 2 cents... I had my son at 22 and he is 20 now.. It's great that I'm young and I have my freedom now to do what I want. However being a youg mother was a huge challenge, I wasn't sure of myself and i struggled with motherhood because i was still a kid.

However my dearest friend waited until she was 34 before she started her family and at 38 she had her second Feb 09. She had her career and she is such a different mom than what I was. She is confident and strong in her approach to parenting while I felt overwhelmed all the time. I always seem to struggle and she seems to have it all under control.... So yes health maybe a concern because of age however I think older parents are stronger parents. My 2 cents.... Best of luck to each and everyone of you ladies, becoming a parent is the most amazing thing you can ever do in life.... It is an amazing love.

So glad i found this tread, I am 37 and FI is 49, we do plan on having a child after the wedding, its great to see how many others are out there that have waited to have children. I had been thinking maybe i am too old to start considering, but seeing all the support and all the women in the same situation is quite comforting.

I am 36 and we are pregnant with our first, but we had to do IUI (artificial insemination). Both of us tested 'normal', so its considered unexplained infertility ... but I do have a diminishing ovarian reserve. That happens as you age, and it can be more difficult to get pregnant. We were very lucky that our IUI worked the first time - but it was a long road to get there. LOTS of testing and different fertility drugs, etc.

Pre-natal health is important ... and of course doctors suggest testing if you are 35+ and don't get a BFP after 6-months of trying.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
