Shipping to Cabo

Are any of you cabo brides packing and bringing with you a significant amount material (gifts, favors, decor). I read the OOT Bag thread that some mentioned you were shipping ahead of time etc. I really want to pack all of my material in a box, seal it and keep it separate from our luggage. I'll have a box/create of stuff- some votive candels (not glass), table linens and SOME of my gift bag stuff (am buying some of it in Cabo). But I'm nervous about getting stuck in customs or paying a bundle for the "over the weight limit." Any advicehuh.gif Thanks!

Hmm I know their was a thread started in the old forum on how to ship something to mexico and having it actually "get" there. I've only heard about people not receiving the stuff they shipped or it arrived a month after they were gone. Let me see if I can dig up the old thread..

Hi Ladies,

I think I am going to ship a box of stuff to Mexico prior to the wedding. I have heard the risks about shipping to Mexico, so, I called DHL the other day to get specific instructions.

She told me that Mexico is tricky and have a lot of funky rules & regulations. Probably why some stuff never makes it. They have weird rules about shipping clothes or fabric, etc. She told me that when I fill out the commerical Invoice to list EVERY item with, quantities, a detailed description, cost and (**IMPORTANT**) make sure to write at the bottom

"No Commerical Value"

For Custom Purposes Only"

Gifts for Wedding guests

Not For Resale

(and then put your contact information)

She also told me to have a contact name on the label (I am going to ship to Mariana at Dreams and send her an e-mail that it is coming) and she said to allow at least 5 days. I am going to allow 3 weeks, since I'm paranoid :)

I am going to use my company account number and reimburse them. That will give me a big discount.

I got an estimate from DHL and one big box weighing 10lbs with insurance was around $200 from Orange County to Cabo.

Hey everyone!

I was just curious...

My sister is in charge of doing my centerpieces and helping w/ oot bags, etc... she is a designer and so she has all the creative ideas and does good w/ budgets...anyway, I was wondering if we end up having alot of stuff to take with us (which I am going to try and keep it all at a minimum the best I can) have any of you shipped some of your items to your wedding coordinator ahead of time like a week or two?? Just to try and save the hassle of packing it in luggage, etc....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
