Are any of you cabo brides packing and bringing with you a significant amount material (gifts, favors, decor). I read the OOT Bag thread that some mentioned you were shipping ahead of time etc. I really want to pack all of my material in a box, seal it and keep it separate from our luggage. I'll have a box/create of stuff- some votive candels (not glass), table linens and SOME of my gift bag stuff (am buying some of it in Cabo). But I'm nervous about getting stuck in customs or paying a bundle for the "over the weight limit." Any advice Thanks!

Hmm I know their was a thread started in the old forum on how to ship something to mexico and having it actually "get" there. I've only heard about people not receiving the stuff they shipped or it arrived a month after they were gone. Let me see if I can dig up the old thread..

        Hi Ladies,
I think I am going to ship a box of stuff to Mexico prior to the wedding. I have heard the risks about shipping to Mexico, so, I called DHL the other day to get specific instructions.

She told me that Mexico is tricky and have a lot of funky rules & regulations. Probably why some stuff never makes it. They have weird rules about shipping clothes or fabric, etc. She told me that when I fill out the commerical Invoice to list EVERY item with, quantities, a detailed description, cost and (**IMPORTANT**) make sure to write at the bottom

        "No Commerical Value"
        For Custom Purposes Only"
        Gifts for Wedding guests
        Not For Resale

(and then put your contact information)

She also told me to have a contact name on the label (I am going to ship to Mariana at Dreams and send her an e-mail that it is coming) and she said to allow at least 5 days. I am going to allow 3 weeks, since I'm paranoid :)

I am going to use my company account number and reimburse them. That will give me a big discount.

I got an estimate from DHL and one big box weighing 10lbs with insurance was around $200 from Orange County to Cabo.

Thanks. On another note, Tammy, I owe you some pictures of the Melia. If you send me your email address, I can send you the link. I finally uploaded them and put them on Snapfish. There are only 10 or so, but they may be helpful. -jenny

I am actually buying a big bag to put all my extra wedding stuff in - the over the limit fee for 51 - 70 pounds is only $25 on American. The fee for an extra bag is $80. I figure it is still cheaper than shipping and I know it will get there!

                Hey everyone!

                I was just curious...

My sister is in charge of doing my centerpieces and helping w/ oot bags, etc... she is a designer and so she has all the creative ideas and does good w/ budgets...anyway, I was wondering if we end up having alot of stuff to take with us (which I am going to try and keep it all at a minimum the best I can) have any of you shipped some of your items to your wedding coordinator ahead of time like a week or two?? Just to try and save the hassle of packing it in luggage, etc....

Michelle, I have the same question. My mom picked up large-sized vases as centerpieces and not sure how we're going to get them there!!

You can...but it gets really pricy really fast. If you do go this route, I think the most reliable company is DHL. Things tend to get lost in Mexico.

There are some other posts on this issue but I can't seem to find them.

Oh great! That would suck if it got lost!! Oh boy! :)
