How much are you spending on your honeymoon?

Recommended Posts

I am just starting to look into booking our honeymoon and have absolutely no concept of what's reasonable- and what's not! I have a friend who claims to have spent close to $35,000 on hers in Hawaii (flying first class and staying at the Four Seasons). There is no way I am about to spend even close to that amount- plus we are looking at Mexico, which should be cheaper than Hawaii anyway. Just wanted to start a thread to see what people are realistically looking to spend. This is probably a topic most of my friends wouldn't want to publicly discuss- so thanks to anyone who wishes to post theirs!!!

base your decision on how much money you can afford to spend on a honeymoon, not what others do. And to determine what you can afford, take everything into account, not just if you can make the payment.

We're just going straight from our wedding week to a different resort for a second week - it's a nicer resort, so we're paying about $200 more each (so like $1,700 each).

We are staying at the same resort our wedding is being held at. We will be there for two weeks and decided to splurge on the highest room category. Our trip is just over $7000 including airfare.

I agree with Morgan, you should plan a trip that is right for the two of you. Sit down together and decide what is affordable for you then maybe a TA can help make suggestions that fit into your budget.

I am in your same boat. I want to go to Bora Bora for our honeymoon but it looks like it will cost us a pretty penny for 8 nights, plus airfare. I am hoping to use our points for airfare, but still these little things are expensive.

I do travel a lot and can tell you. It truly isn't where you are it is who you are with and what you do while you are there. I have been all over the tropics and some of my favorite places are not the place I would have thought going there would turn out to be my fav.

Happy Planning

We're boring and happy to stay at the resort we're getting married at for 2 weeks. Total cost =$5200. $35000 sounds excessive to me, I'd rather use that money for more important life things, but hey! that's my opinion.

Thanks for the responses! I agree- $35,000 is way too much- and I would much rather spend that money elsewhere (not that I have that much money to spend)! We are getting married in Acapulco and then thinking of going to Tulum for the honeymoon- either Moon Palace or Dreams. We were going to stay for 10 days, but were afraid that maybe that was too long at one place, so we are considering going to Zihuatenejo for 4 nights between the 2. What do you guys think? Is 10 days too long at an all-inclusive resort? If not- any preferences between the 2? Thanks again!

i'd think it depends on the person. we stayed 7 nights at an AI in riveria maya. By day 8, I was happy to be heading home. I had a great time, but a week was enough. I would want to travel around more for a 10 day stay. Also, we were worn out & a little sick.

We are combining our wedding and honeymoon into one trip (maybe an excuse for a second honeymoon? hit.gif Our entire stay at a very reasonable resort will cost us less than 6,000 including airfare from NJ.

Second Q: 7, 10, 14... there can never be too many days for me on a hot beach, with a warm blue ocean and drinks near by. If you are an adventurous traveler I am sure you will not get tired of Mexico... there is so much to do there. I think of it like the U.S. I live a few hours from major cities and have yet to see what they have to offer.

Besides....even if you get tired of the same place, I am sure your new hubby can find a way to entertain you!

We're also combining our wedding and honeymoon in a 2.5 wk period starting in France and then going to London and then Amsterdam. Including airfare, our cost is approx. $20,000 (but that also includes renting the entire accommodations we are staying at for the first week for us and our guests - the other locations are for us only and are on cc points). That should include an approximation of food, drinks, excursions and anything else we might want to try, see, rent, or do (for us only).
