How much are you spending on your honeymoon?

We're doing something a little different. Mostly based on timing. But we're going on a pre-wedding moon. My FI is graduating from his MBA program at the end of May 2010, and he starts back at his job in August. So I negotiated time off of work and we are heading to Africa for 2 months! Because we are viewing this as a once in a lifetime trip, traveling to several countries and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, doing a safari, relaxing in Zanzibar, staying in a beach house in Kenya, two weeks in Egypt and then to the World Cup in South Africa. We figure we wont ever have the opportunity again to do something like this (with our jobs, having kids in a few years etc) so we're going all out. We've booked most of it and it's about $35,000 including what we budgeted for food and drinks. We are using points for the long haul flights to get there. It's also kind a trip to celebrate FI getting an MBA. So to compare 2 weeks at a resort somewhere for the same price, I honestly can't even imagine spending that when we could do this instead!!!

That being said we're just going to stay at the resort our wedding is at for a few extra days after the wedding and then come home.

Our Honeymoon is going to be around $12,000 CAD for flights and resort. We are going on the Honeymoon 2 days after the wedding. We are flying first class from Cancun to St Lucia (Soufriere area), staying at Jade Mountain for 5 nights for about 8200 CAD (Star Sanctuary with the all inclusive option), then fly first class from St Lucia back to Ft McMurray, Alberta.

I'm on medical leave and it's been 2 yrs and counting, that being said. We have no problem staying at the same resort for our honeymoon, We would prefer to do 10 days. However they are not selling 10 or even 11 day package for quebec. So we are waiting a little longer to see if the price will drop a little for a 14 day stay, which right now would cost $5200. Which I think is good for the royal section, but plus all the wedding cost, we would be looking at 8-9,000$ I hope the price goes down real soon!

If I had the money, I still wouldn't spend that much money on a honeymoon.I would put it towards a house, or a morgage I already had! The FI said he would buy a new car! Lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
