TTD/Cenote and Beach Questions- Help is appreciated!!!

Hi everyone! I have looked all over the forum for a thread about bringing my own photog from the states and doing our TTD. I am super excited about taking great beach pics as well as cenote pics, but I have several questions!!!

 

I am curious to know- from those of you who have either been there or been through this process:

 

*Which cenotes are close to Cancun, gorgeous, and allow pictures?

 

*Also, I have read many times that several of the cenotes require permission for photography. How should we go about getting that?

 

* What is the average "photography" fee that they charge- so we are prepared?

 

* Lastly, we are getting married at Beach Palace, which ironically, doesn't have much of a beach and need great advice for amazing beaches.

where did you read about the fees? we were not charges fees & I haven't heard about anyone being charged.

 

The ruins have photography restrictions, but not cenotes.

 

ana (tlomlad) went to a beautiful cenote near dreams cancun. I don't know it's name, but she said it was the closest to cancun.

I think I read about the fees from a link that someone had posted about the cenotes. I think it was a link to someone who had written quite a bit of literature about the cenotes. I could easily be mistaken. It was a while ago when I looked at it.

Morgan!! It was actually the link that you had posted to Steve Gerrard's website. He had mentioned that some of them were privately owned and if they request that you pay a fee, that you must. I think I misunderstood that to mean that there was a potential for asking visitors to pay a photography fee for use of the property. Thank you for clarifying!

Hi... Cenotes ( which you can enter y car ) requires a fee. Those are owned by the ejido or private. They make a big business out of it no question about that. I actually got trained by Steve Gerrard a long time ago as a full cave instructor and been diving most of those caves and cenotes for the past 10 years. They're amazing no doubt and most of the entrance to the cave ( Cenotes ) are very hard to reach because they are far away from the main road. The owners make it possible for us to reach them easily, like Dos Ojos, Taj Mahal, Mayen Blue, just to mentioned some . Though , between 5 and 10 usd a person, I think its fair to pay the entrance and have a nice clean beautiful place to enjoy.

 

Back to Cancun....the Beach Palace, not much Beach over there, that right. But you can take a Taxi ( if your photographer don't have car ). South by Westin Regina.... beautiful Beach or behind Hard Rock Cafe. There're are a lot of options if you know your way around.

yeah, it's totally worth it. it's also nice handing the money over to a local & not some ticket counter at a big place.

We paid $8 at grand cenote. they take US$ or pesos. the ruins were the only peso-only places we encountered.

you can rent snorkeling equipment there too.

Morgan: i read your other posts about the public cenotes. It's a great help! I like the idea of trying to find a private cenote but it might be like finding a needle in a haystack since I don't know anyone down there.

 

Morgan, what time of day did you do your TTD session, were you glad with the time that you picked?

 

I will be watching this thread for some great ideas...my photog already found an underwater housing for his camera.

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.       Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.
