my (mexican) fi said in mexico is standard to require  no food/drink (even water) for around 6-8 hours before all blood tests done in mexico. was this the case for brides who had in done in the hotel? and if so, did you just get it first thing in the mornig?

Just a quick FYI, if someone were so inclined to marry their cousin, they wouldn't necessarily have to elope to Mexico. Tennessee state law forbids marriage of a step parent to a step child, or an Aunt to a Nephew, but they're all for first cousins getting married. We're about to move to Tennessee and we're getting married in Cabo. I researched both areas' marriage laws to see which is the better option for a legal ceremony, and I swear my jaw dropped!!

Hello Brides!

 

Mexico is one of the few countries that requires the Prenuptial Lab Tests and Medical Certificate, specifically for blood type H.I.V and S.T.D (sexual diseases such syphilis or gonorrhea)  with results in 24 hours that in some labs might be a little bit more expensive.   The results are valid for fifteen days.

 

Most of the resorts offer medical services for 24 hours so they normally are doing the lab tests, otherwise your external wedding planner will take you to the reliable labs in Playa del Carmen or will send them to your hotel's room.

 

For a Prenuptial Blood Test you can have breakfast before or even drink a glass of wine or a "few" beers the night before. 

 

Is important to mention that in case you or your FI have a disease the Justice of the Peace will not marry you even if you want to or are agreed.

I just read about needing a blood test in one of the resort wedding brochures.  I was kind of surprised as its not required in Canada. Is it required at all resorts in Mexico?  I'm not scared about blood work at all, I just hope that it is done in a sterile manner and I also bruise easily and hope it doesn't leave a mark!

Reading the previous comments it looks like it is a smooth and clean process.  I'm tempted to do the renewal of the vows package to avoid this extra stress though.  We really want to get legally married In mexico and not have it just be symbolic but I don't want the added stress of blood drawing. I feel like I'm already going to be nervous enough.
