Tipping Wedding Coordinator

Recommended Posts

You know, I never even thought of tipping the WC. As amazing as our wedding was, I felt like the WC added a lot of stress to the whole process. She was awful at communicating up to the wedding, and than when we arrived at the resort and met with her, she forgot about the changes we had made months before. I was not thrilled with the service we received, but like I said - everything ended up working out great. but I do not think that it was due to the WC...there were little details that had to be sorted out, and i wish that we just would not have had to deal with those extra stressors!

We tipped our WC as well, right at the end of our reception dinner (she stuck around through the whole thing to make sure it went off without a hitch despite poor communication until our arrival at the wedding resort). She did a really great job and considering it was Mexico (and even a $1 seems to be very much appreciated), we decided on $50 for the WC, $20 to our head waiter and $10 each to the other 4 waiters that were reserved for our event. The waiters themselves were great, remembering what everyone drank and bringing out fresh beverages before we had to ask.

We did not tip the Minister (despite that it was a symbolic ceremony) as he was 40 minutes late (guests HAD to be thinking it was me who was late and keeping them waiting out in the hot sun) and I had wrote out the entire ceremony for him, including sending it ahead so he had time to review it if he choose.

we did not tip. A 15% service fee was provided in all of our food and beverage costs ($7500) which I thought was sufficient. The other thing to think about is some resorts (including ours) require all staff to pool tips and gratuities which are divided equally. I bought Perla a beautiful thank you card and wrote a heartfelt message from both of us inside. I also thanked her in my speech at the wedding and had her come up to the podium so Ben and I could give her a big hug!

We tipped our wedding coordinator $100 the day b4 our departure. And belive me, I would have never tipped that much if I didnt feel like she deserved it. But I had been dealing with several WCs prior to my arrival at the resort and going back and forth a lot. Our WC had only been employed at the resort about 1 week b4 my wedding, so initially she was a little up in the air about all of the details we had previously requested when we got there.

However, we basically re-planned our wedding the night b4 the wedding and we felt she went above and beyond her role (she even mini-Dj'd our cocktail hour!) of a WC and helped our dream vision come true. I don't know what the customary tipping is, but I often tip depending on level of service. We felt our WC really really deserved it :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
