Bringing your own photographer

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any of the past ROR brides had any problems bringing their own photographer. Mine is booked for the whole week with my group; and I plan on saying she is a friend who is doing the pics for free. I did a search on here and found that there was a charge of $200 US for breaking the contract and not using Michael. Just wondering if anyone had issues...

We brought our own photographer and had no problems. No one from the photoshop even showed up during any part of the wedding/reception. When I sat with Chandlyn to finalize everything she asked if we needed Michael and I said no I had my own photographer and she said that was fine. As far as the $200 if you did have a problem with him and you never signed any contract then you do not owe anyone any money. They cannot make you pay just because you don't use their photographer. The photoshop at the hotel and the wedding department are seperate so even though you are having your wedding there it does not mean that you will use their photographer. Hope that helps, good luck!

a photographer had an issue before. she had shot 4 weddings in a row at ROR. When she went back the next time, they escorted her off the property even though she had a room at the hotel. so just stick to your story about the photographer being a friend. with them just doing the one wedding, it shouldn't be an issue.

We brought two photogs and had no problems. I would make sure you contact Chandlyn or Nikki before you go, and print out their emails saying it's OK, then keep those with you. We went with the free package, which didn't include photography, so nobody even asked us about it.

I am not asking and I don't care. It is my wedding and I don't have a contract with Riu or Michael. I have paid for a guest to attend my wedding and he can take pictures if he wants to. That is my opinion. Anyone else from the resort who says anything else has another thing coming. I am only a biatch about this.

I was just worried because I heard that a photographer was escorted off the property. I'm already paying for the photographer (who is actually my friend) and her assistant to come to the resort for 1 week; plus the expense for the photographer. I was worried that the same could happen...It doesn't make sense though about not being able to have someone else do the pictures! It is our choice! I'm just going to have to take on your attitude! :) I just realized how close our weddings our! It's coming so soon.

Yep, you should be fine if you say your photographer is a friend.

From a photographer's point of view, just ask your photog to wear something similar to what your guests would wear. There's nothing that sticks out more than a photographer wearing all black at a destination wedding. Then the "he's just a friend with a camera" story might not work so well! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
