    @AnaS

    Thank you for the quick response and all the great information from your wedding!  So you paid the couple hundred dollar deposit for the wedding but not the individual room deposits ($50-$100), right?

    Did you estimate how many guests/rooms you want them to hold then two months before the wedding just cancel the additional rooms that were not reserved?  I want to make sure I am understanding you correctly because right now our travel agent says we will need guests to reserve before signing the contract.  We don't want to have guests be forced into responding in a month from now when our wedding is NEXT June.

    THANKS!

      Thanks for responding so quickly and sharing all that information with us!  I want to make sure I am understanding you correctly because right now we are being told that we need guests to pick dates, reserve rooms and pay a $50/person deposit before we sign the contract.  Our wedding is June 2013 so we thought this was a little much to ask of people a year in advance.

      Did you estimate how many rooms you would need, they blocked those rooms off and you were guaranteed the group rate up until two months before the wedding? Or did you have to pay the deposit on the estimated number of rooms blocked off?

      Thanks again

          Are you a US bride?

          Most of the room blocks we negotiate for our US clients do not need to have the guests book or pay a deposit BEFORE a group block is signed.  Usually you pay a deposit to hold x-amount of rooms at a locked in rate.  The rate is valid until you release the rooms and you can usually do so 30 days before the travel dates without penalty (be sure to read your contract carefully as they all vary).

          You might want to contact TA Babs for some rates and to help answer your questions about group blocks: HERE

              How much is it to reserve/book a wedding date spot?

              And is the "spot" they offer us is for the ceremony?

                Hi Camila S,

                I think I did not make it very easy to understand in my last message, so will try it again. (english is not my forst language :) )

                I paid the $200 deposit to reserve the wedding day. I estimated how many guests I will have and then I blocked 35 rooms, each for 3 nights and paid 30% of the value of these rooms with double occupancy to the resort (as deposit for the block). I signed a contract with them for this room block and had a cancellation policy of 2 months before the wedding without penalty. 2 months before the wedding, I cancelled the rooms that did not get booked by my guests (out of the 35 blocked) . The deposit that I paid for the rooms was used to pay for the wedding and our rooms for the stay when at the wedding. I ended up using all that deposit, but they said they would have reimbursed any remaining amount if there was any.

                I did not use an agent and worked directly with the resort. This way I avoided having to ask my guests to book so far in advance, which I think is a little much to ask from our guests.

                Actually this way I ended up offering my guests a much better deal. They booked their flight on their own and the prices for the rooms were very good.

                Hope this helps. Let me knwo if you have more questions.

                Thanks,

                Ana

                  @Tammy,

                  I am a US bride but I did not use a travel agen and worked directly with the resort. The procedure is teh same no matter if you are a US or Canadian bride.

                  I already had my wedding and everything went very smoothly. Thanks for offering the information though.

                  Ana

                    Has anyone negotiated with Ana when they are bringing their own officiant? We are doing a symbolic ceremony and the Paradise Package, but does anyone know if she would throw in any extras since all the legal docs/officiant wouldn't be needed?
