Ocean Turquesa & Coral Brides?

Recommended Posts

Could someone that has recently been to the OCT help me out? I have been seeing on the news the past couple of days that the US is warning about the dangers of traveling to Mexico. They showed gun fire and a war zone on the TV this morning, telling college students not to travel there for spring break. I am ready to book my daughters wedding there for August 2009 and am getting concerned. Did you or your guests at anytime feel unsafe? Did you see any kind of conflict or anything that would bring you concern? Thanks much!

Hi Cherie, I have never been to Mexico, but I have traveled in Asian countries/cities that some may consider more of a "travel risk" than Mexico. I think it all comes down to knowing how to travel smart, not flashing your dollars/jewelry, travelling in groups, knowing which areas are out-of-bounds, etc. I haven't heard about the war zone, (is it in Riviera Maya?) And i guess it all depends on your guests' comfort level...

Welcome Krista.

Ohhh I hope there is no trouble in Mexico..I haven't seen the news reports about that..?? Cross my fingers I guess..I am leaving in less than 2 weeks now..YEE HAA!!

Kaycee, did they have a steamer for your dress? I am getting my last fitting today. My dress was a tad snug...LOL and long. Got the length adjusted and lost about 10 pounds so it should be good. Ohhh the things we must do as women!!! Do you think any of our fiancees worry about their weight?? LOL

Alrighty, got to get packing..moving to Colorado the day after we get back from Mexico..holy cow.. 29hr car ride.

Have a great weekend ladies,

Shelley

Hey ladies,

My fiance and I have this resort pegged as one of our fav choices for our DW January 2010. It looks great so far, except for one thing... We're emailing with Ana about booking the buffet or booking a specialty restaurant for the supper. Has anyone heard any rationalization why we would have to pay $20-$50 per person for a meal that they would be getting for free otherwise (with the all-inclusive package of course)?

My sister got married at the Akumal Beach Resort January 2008. They told her as well that she needed to pay $30 per person to book a restaurant for their supper. She told them that we'd just grab a few tables in the buffet and go eat there instead. One week later they emailed her and told her they'd book her into the Mexican restaurant free of charge.

We're hoping something like this happens for us. :) It doesn't make sense why they would charge you for one meal that you would be eating anyway, especially when you're bringing 50 people for one week into their resort. It's huge revenue for them! We'll see what happens with it, and I'll keep you posted.

sounds like a great plan Tennille, keep us posted!

Shelley, your wedding is so soon! you must be super excited :) if you don't mind me asking, did you end up booking a master suite or jr. suite? did you avail of the privelege package? im still not sure if its really worth it (privelege) since my FI and I are not really picky about alcohol brand names... I wonder though if we have the "privelege" to reserve at the restaurants, could we reserve for the whole group that way?

you are the next one Map!! I am very excited and nervous..still have a couple questions for Ana..But I will call her this week. I get more answers that way.

Tenniz...I am paying 20 pp for dinner at the Villa Marina Restaurant. I guess because they shut down the whole restaurant just for our group for 1.5 hrs-2 hrs...? My fiancee didn't like that too much either or understand it but I just told him that that's just the way it is....How could he argue..LOL We could have a free dinner at the buffet in our own area but I can't really see my $1500.00 dress at a buffet. That statement also worked on my fiancee.

BC...my room is the most important thing to me when I travel..so I get the best. I booked the Deluxe Master Suite with jacuzzi on the balcony. I am all about the ocean..have to see it, hear it and smell it from my room. I would usually wait to get there to upgrade but because it's March break I didn't want to risk not getting it. Upgrading when you get there would be cheaper. We paid 2000.00 CAD each compared to our guests who paid 1500.00 CAD(March Break). We do have priviledge everything including making reservations ..not sure if for the whole group but we will try. Not really concerned about better liquor either. We're in Mexico.LOL A couple of my guests are upgrading to priviliedge when we get there so I will let you know what they spent to get it

I will let everyone know in detail about everything as soon as I can...remember that I am moving to Colorado the day we get back to Canada so it'll be a few days after the 20th..If I have down time at the resort..I'll do it there. Maybe a quick daily post...?? I'll try. we are bringing our laptop and have internet in our room(supposed to) Alrighty, must get to work.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
