Ocean Turquesa & Coral Brides?

Recommended Posts

Hi Amanda,

I did not use the resort DJ or photographer.  As far as the DJ goes I suppose it's up to you what you prefer. Most brides just make a playlist on their IPOD and use the speakers and IPOD dock from the resort.  I did see some other weddings while I was there and did not see any DJ's. All had Ipod's. Sorry I can't help there.

As far as the photographer goes I did use an outside one. I read every single post on this blog and a lot of negative reviews regarding the resort photographer. In my opinion it is well worth the outside vendor fee. You will look at these pictures for the rest of your life. They capture your entire day. You do not want to be disappointed.

I used Sascha Gluck and he was AWESOME! Great communication the whole time, during planning and on the day.  I am so thrilled with my pictures. I really cannot say enough about him and his rates are fair. You end up with a CD of your pictures with all the rights. He gives you every single picture he snaps so you do not have to pick. With the resort photographer you have to pick pictures that you want and the more you pick the more you pay.

I get updates from this post still so I will gladly answer any questions I can. I know how difficult it can be to plan a destination wedding and any help is super awesome when you are planning.

Have fun!

Josie

Great advice, Josie! and another example of what makes this forum such a valuable resource for wedding planning.......well done!

I also concur,  and we hear those same sentiments expressed by brides a lot........so when we say it's a good idea to spend the extra it takes for a professional photographer to record your Big Day - your once-in-a-lifetme EVENT.......it's nice to hear others agree.

You just can't buy back those magical wedding "moments that matter" !!!

Happy planning everyone and wishing you all the wonderful weddings of your dreams! Cheers :)

We got married on December 6th, 2012 at OCT and had 75 guests.  We had very little contact with our wedding coordinator prior to arrival (Paula).  They are very busy with other weddings.  We met with Paula for 3 hours the day after we arrived at the resort.  We set up everything at this time.  She did everything to what we wanted.  The day was flawless.  We did not even have a DJ that we paid for and they provided one anyways.  We had some of our own decor and center pieces and they were put out for us.  The cake options they have at the resort are far more then what you get sent on the order form.  Everything you have put on your order form will change once you arrive as alot more options seem to become available.  Dont stress about not speaking to the wedding coordinator, the wedding will be great as the coordinators do an incredible job.
Congrats!!! And thank you so much for posting this. We are also working with Paula and this makes me feel much more reassured :)

I am so thankful for the site, with each post I become more and more confident in what to do! I too have been waffling on DJ or not. I received a response from Ana today with my question, "To clarify the DJ (if purchased) would be responsible for MCing the evening however if we opt to not move forward with a DJ, there will be someone from your staff to play the music just not MC the night."  She said:

WELL, IF WE COORDINATE WITH THE DJ THE MC, THERE WILL BE AN EXTRA OF APROXIMATELY 300USD OR MORE. THE COST DEPENDS ON THE HOUR YOU WANT TO HIRE.

CORRECT IF YOU DECIDE NOT TO HIRE THE DJ, ONE OF THE OUR STAFF WILL BE THERE TO HELP TO PLAY THE MUSIC, BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT IS NOT A DJ, HE WILL PREPARE THE SOUND SYSTEM AND PLAY THE MUSIC THAT YOU WILL PROVIDE.

YOU CAN BRING A PLAY LIST EITHER ON CD OR IPOD.

So that leaves my question to past brides, who moves the night along? (Time for cake, first dance, etc.) If I do not move forward with the DJ, does the event staff announce that? Or do I need to elect someone from my guest party as that?

I was wondering the same thing.  I would like to use OCT's DJ and photographer to keep costs

down, but don't know whether they are any good or not.  Anyone have an opinion, or used them before?  I can't seem to find any reviews or info on them, especially the photographer -- he seems to be a ghost, lol.  Thanks to anyone who can provide information!

Just an update from acd8809 to leahbecker:

I sent an email to the DJ, and in his response, he quoted me $600 for three hours instead of the $550 stated in the price list from OCT.  I don't understand why?  I know of a bride who is using him in May of 2013, which is when I am getting married, so it cannot be due to a price increase on his part.  Besides, the price is set by the resort, right?  Also, we already put down a deposit for a May 2013 wedding several months ago.  Anyone else running into any discrepancies between the price list from OCT and a resort vendor?

Thanks, Amanda

My husband Benjamin and I were married at Ocean Coral and Turquesa on November 3, 2012. We had the time of our lives & we owe it ALL to Angelica the wedding coordinator! We had over 50 guests and every person had told us that everything was perfect. We used our iPod as our DJ and also payed to have the mariachi band for an hour. We also had an outside photographer Ivan who can be found here : http://www.luckiephotography.com

Any feedback on the dj or suggestions?

leahbecker,

The following is only my personal experience and opinion regarding Nicolas Cano, past brides may have had a very positive experience with DJ Cano and highly recommend him.  If so, I would like to hear from them as to how Nicolas performed as a DJ.  I have read many threads, and really can't find any information on Nicolas Cano.

I am getting married at OCT in May2013.  I contacted the Nicolas Cano, and the price he quoted me was $600 for three hours, not the $550 as stated in the pricelist from OCT.  Wrote to Angelica and Ana (WC) to complain/resolve the discrpancy, but have heard nothing yet.

I did not get a "warm, fuzzy" feeling from his email response, he did not seem enthusiastic at all, like this is nothing more than a routine "job" to him.  I don't know if he has the animated personality needed to interact with guests.  In addition, he said he uses a "DJ booth,"  which surprised me.  I am afraid that he may just "hide" in there, not interact with guests very much.

Does anyone have anysuggestions for a DJ with an outgoing personality who gets involved with your guests, attempts to liven up the party and entertain the guests???

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
