no decorations here sad.gif we're non-practicing jews but i grew up with a 1' fake tree. when my parents moved, my father decided that he didn't care what my mother thought anymore - since he grew up with a real tree, he was going to have one...then my sister moved out and got a tree...dh won't let me have one tho, and since we don't have/want a menorah, we're the only unlit house on the block.

My Dad is Jewish. He always participated with our Christmas holiday. Even now (my parents are divorced) he comes over with Christmas presents. We try to go over and light the candles with him to support him too.

What a fun thread, Abbie :)

Everyone's decorations look great and really put me in the Holiday Spirit! :)

We have a ginormous (like 8-10 foot) artificial tree that my Grandparents gave us last year (they were "downsizing" - now they have a 2' tree lol). It's a great tree, don't get me wrong - but it's just so friggin' HUGE. lol Ah well, good thing we have really high ceilings. It takes so much to decorate it. This year I finally decided to stick with a theme (instead of a hodgepodge, although their is still a lil' of that - not super strict on the theme I guess). We have red lights, a white glittery light up star on top and just bought several sets of pearly-white, silver and shiny/glittery red ornaments. We also have some great ones that people have given to us (since last year was our first year doing our own tree).

It took about 3 days of work (putting that tree together can be a tad cumbersome!) but we finished it on Friday and now I love it love.gif I can't stop staring at it wink.gif Actually we haven't even put up all the new "color themed" ornaments up yet.

Oh and Jess - is that a butterfly on your tree? I love butterflies! (But NO, this doesn't mean I want a "butterfly adult toy" rofl.gif) We picked one up yesterday that is about 4 inches long and it "perches" on your tree. That's gonna make me happy (side note: when I was 17 and my Mom passed away, I walked outside the hospital and remember seeing a butterfly and knowing that was her spirit. Since then I see them everywhere. If I ever got a tattoo it would be of a butterfly. K, that was kind of random cheesy.gif)

I'll take a pic and post when I can (may have to wait until later this week after the surgery).

We don't decorate much for christmas. last year we didn't do anything at all. our place is small so we don't have room to store decorations and if we put stuff out it would be in the way. once we have a house, I'll definitly decorate.

I do have one decoration out this year.

When i was home for thanksgiving, my SIL was looking through my mom's ornaments. my mom only does a very small tree now, so all of the ornaments we've had since we were kids are kept in boxes. This will be my bro & SIL's first christmas in their house, so they are taking some of my mom's old decorations for this year.

She asked if I wanted any of them. The only ornament that popped in my head that I really loved as a kid was a castle with topiaries in the front of it. I described it as this beautiful, magestic ornament. I used to lay next to the tree & stare at it. Any time I see topiaries, I get that warm & fuzzy holiday feeling.

After looking through some boxes my SIL found it. Ready to see the amazing, magestic castle i remembered from my childhood?

hmm, not as fancy as I remembered. But, i really liked pink as a kid so maybe that's why I was so drawn to it.

i've started collecting ornaments. I thought it would be fun for mike & i to get each other & ornament each year & write a letter to go with it.

well, he found this tradition to be tourture. so instead we go together & buy an ornament each year. i've been on a bird kick getting these feathery birds. he got a silly little snowman that plays jingle bells.

my future tree will not be fancy. it will have to be a silly, eclectic mix. i could never commit to one style of ornaments.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
