Hi JS,

I posted wrong. I am having my wedding on Tortugas beach and the reception at the Fiesta Palapa at the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar. Viviana sent me some great pics of the palapa lighted up at night and I really like the hardscape setting. We will do dancing in the palapa and pretty much everywhere. The De Cortez restaurant buy out is a $16,000 minimum, which I wasn't sure that I would meet with only 50 people, but you can also just do reservations for dinner or the terrace of the restaurant. I was more interested in having my own area and that's why I decided on the Palapa.

Music has to be off at 10:30pm anywhere. But, we are starting the dinner at around 7pm so that leaves a couple of hours. The nice thing is that if people still want to do things we are only ten minutes from Cabo San Lucas. Most of the resorts that I have looked into have a 11:00pm music cut off anyway.

I'll be sure to fill you in as my planning progresses. Take Care!

Ashley

I love the romantic look it exuded in all of the pictures I have seen. There is definitely enough room for a dance floor if you want one. Most people use the inside of the actual Palapa though and that's what we are doing. Viviana has been extremely helpful and normally less than a 24 hour response to most emails. I am not using a wedding coordinator because I have booked everything myself and don't really feel the need to spend all that extra money now. It seems that from what I have read on this site that if your organized and know what you want then you really don't need one. I hope this all helped. I know its all a little overwhelming at first. If you have any more specific questions feel free to PM me ok?
Hey Shawna,

The Palapa does look beautiful with all the lanterns. I hate the idea of spending extra money too. I'm really debating right now about the WC. I'm in the middle of a career change, so I'll need to graduate from grad school, look for a job, and start my brand new career all the while planning for a wedding, and just feel overwhelmed thinking about it all. We'll see... Thanks for giving me your perspective! Definitely helps. Keep me posted on your progress. I'll do the same!

Hi Ashley,

Palapa seems to be the popular choice! Yeah, I guess if the dinner starts early enough, 10:30 isn't that bad. I'm so excited to follow your planning process as well. Def keep us posted! Thanks for all your insight~ I am so loving this forum.

Hey Jess...

It's me again...LOL

She's been coordinating events for over 3 years now, she started off as an Hotel WC and then took off to an Agency... Nowadays, she's doing it as an "independant", because she's just starting her own bussines.

If you want more info, I can get you the bride's mail, so you can ask her directly and have a more accurate opinion about how she worked; after all, I attended as a guest but she hasn't done my wedding...hehehehe...JK

Let me know if you would like to contact the Bride or Groom, we're really good friends and they can give all the details, and trust me, they'll tell you exactly how they felt. Right now they're honeymooning @ Can Cun, because the wedding was like 2 weeks ago.

Cheers and happy hunting..err... I mean planning

Well, we finally got engaged last week and I'm ready to start planning full-on!

I already know where I want to get married - Sheraton Hacienda's little white chapel, and possibly reception at De Cortez? But haven't yet set an exact date, made any contacts, etc. Oh boy...

Just wanted to re-introduce myself to the Cabo Forum and warn that you may see a lot more of me from now on! cheesy.gif

I remember reading somewhere that Sheraton's on-site coordinator is not that responsive or helpful? So I'm thinking of hiring a wedding coordinator to contact the site, as well as for planning and any wedding day help. We're expecting about 40-50 guests. If anyone reading this had their wedding at the Sheraton, or if you know anyone, I'd so very much appreciate your opinions. I don't want to spend unecessary money on a planner, but also want to save myself the stress and headache! How much do planners charge these days anyway? Ay, I have such a long way to go..............
Dear JS212,

Congratulations!!!!! You will have a great time in your wedding I'm sure.
There are many great vendors in this forum, take your time to select the best options for you. As mango said Addy is very good, I happened to work with her previously. Nothing but good comments. But then again, most vendors in this site are very reliable.

Good planning to you and congratulations again.

Congrats from a Cabo Sheraton bride!! Our wedding is less than a month away, and so far, I've been more than pleased with the Sheraton. I found our room rates steep, but that is because of the time of year we decided to get married - we arrive in Cabo on New Year's Eve.

Also, we hired a wedding planner from Weddings in Paradise. Her name is Katie Thompson, and I cannot say enough WONDERFUL things about her! I was apprehensive at first about the extra money, but she has eased/calmed any emergencies and worries, and she is VERY personable. I would personally recommend a wedding planner because they usually (at least for Katie) have an established relationship with the location and know what's going on. We started planning without her, and I was completely overwhelmed.

Good luck in your planning! We decided to get married on Tortugas Beach with the reception in the Palapa. There are going to be 29 of us total, including bride and groom.

Congratulations on the engagement! I'm getting married at the Sheraton on 6.26.09 at the De Cortez beach and we're expecting around 80 people. Viviana was very responsive in setting up the contract, and once it was signed she turns it over to Marcos, who becomes the contact person after that. I decided to hire an outside planner because I'm actually doing the reception off-site at Villa Cortez, which is a 5 minute walk on the beach. The house is in the same development and you can see it from the beach, and vice versa. We are staying at the house with our wedding party but got group rates for our other guests at the Sheraton. I'm spending the extra money on a planner because I do not want to deal with coordinating vendors and set-up between two sites. And while I did do a lot of my own research on vendors, our planner set up all of our appointments when we did our site visit. I have peace of mind that my planner will be taking care of everything on that day so I don't have to stress. Her name is Amy from Fiestas Los Cabos, and she's been really great! She also really tries to help you stay within your budget. If you want more info, feel free to PM me. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
