Ultimate TV Question: DirectTV or Comcast?

So I've been a member of Comcast for nearly 4 1/2 years now. I originally went with them because at the time, they seemed like the best option for internet/television provider. Well now that my bill is like $140 a month and I don't really have any movie or HD channels, I'm starting to wonder if I'm getting screwed! So I have to wonder, would I be better with DirectTV and then just stick with Comcast for my internet or what?

Do you have Fios in your area? i know my sister had Comcast for the internet and her bill was getting ridiculous. They got Fios in their area and are happy with that now. As far as cable... I would def go with DirecTV. They have so many channels and if you do need to go the HD route I am pretty sure they have the most channels out there! Also, I think TIVO is just the best DVR service out there... We live in a monopolized neighborhood. The builder happens to own the company that our houses are wired with for phone, internet and cable service... They bill it right into our HOA fees. We can't really afford DirecTV on top of that... sad.gif

No, we actually don't have Fios in the Salt Lake City area. Does DirectTV still provide Tivo?

We select cable according to the carriers in our area so there is Comcast, verizon, cablevision, direct tv, time warner, etc. We have cablevision which is better than direct tv or any other carrier like that because you avoid the outage issues that come with direct tv. If it rains, no service. If there is a technical isue - you are SOL. I may not like the pricing of cable but Cablevision and Verizon are great options for us.

We just got rid of Direct TV & switched to Cablevision. So far so good. Hubby doesn't like Cablevision but thats cuz he's been so used to DTV and cuz he's anxiously awaiting Verizon/Fios. I however LOVE it! As mentioned above, I COULD NOT TAKE the outages with DTV. A little bit of rain or a gust of wind & no satelite service. With Cablevision, we don't have to worry about that so I'd take Cablevision anyday over DTV. As soon as Fios is availalbe, we'll be making the switch!

Also, Cablevision offered the current package/special which is cable, internet & phone for $99 but we didn't get that.

I had Direct TV and was so happy with it! It had everything I needed and way cheaper than Comcast! My FI has Comcast, and it's the worst thing ever! The DVR box will all the sudden freeze, or just not work at all! There's always bogus charges on their bills and their customer service sucks!!!

Either of them are better than Time Warner though which I have at my apartment!!!

Definitely Direct TV!!!!

I have DirecTV and love it! Althought I have been trying to get information regarding AT&T's U-verse which is like Fios. It allows have only 1 central hub DVR that functions on upto 4 TVs (that's all I know, lol). The main thing is that I can have my home phone, internet and television all together and it will be just a little more than what I pay for just my DirecTV, at least that is what they are telling me. I've made no moves yet, because I am please with my current service. If anyone has info let me know.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
