The police academy may ruin my wedding plans....

How long is the police academy? I know it depends on the particular city, but I've been hearing about 6 months . . . crybaby2.gif

FI is in the final stage of the recruitment process for the Newport Beach Police Department, and if his background investigation goes well (which we are confident it will because he's clean as a whistle), it looks like the academy will be starting for him very soon. I'm hoping that it happens before the end of the December so that he will be done in time for our June 26th wedding.....but if not, I have no idea what we're going to do worried2.gif

FI has successfully been working as a Realtor the past 4 years, but since the market has turned into crap and our nuptials are nearing, with my blessing he pursued a chance to enter the police academy. It's something he's secretly wanted to do, but never thought I'd go for. Newport PD is one of the highest paid departments in California and thankfully is a generally safe area, which is the only reason why I agreed to it. If all goes well, he will be easily making a 6-figure salary in the next 2 to 3 years.

Things happened so fast, he studied and trained his butt off and from what I've heard it's not easy to get through NPD recruitment process. I am so happy and proud of him, I totally support him and this is a wonderful opportunity for us. But today I will find out if the academy will run into our wedding plans, if so, I don't know what we're gonna do....we've already got at least 10 people who have booked flights, accommodations, and we've hired most of our vendors. My mom suggested that FI just fly down for the weekend, but are you kidding me? How can I be happy being in RM for 2 weeks and only getting my hubby for 3 days....I feel like crying everytime I think about it. sad.gif Am I being selfish?

My heart is breaking just thinking of our plans falling apart because thus far everything has been such a smooth and wonderful process. Please keep your fingers crossed that things work out. FI will be talking to the investigator conducting his background investigation later today, and hopefully I'll know more about where we stand....

Wow that's a really hard situation but don't get too upset about it until you know for sure. Once you know for sure you'll be able to make more decisions about what you'll do. Right now just keep your fingers crossed that he gets the job and the academy will be over before the wedding. Maybe it will end right before you leave and it'll be a nice relief for him after all that hard work and now starting the next chapter of your life. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I'm so sorry this situation is coming up, but I agree with tcram...don't worry about it yet, you will just end up making yourself sick. Let's hope he gets through recruitment and the academy has a heart and helps y'all work it out to where your wedding plans aren't harmed. Good luck with everything...keep us in the loop...you know we are here for you!

Thanks gals for keeping me in check ~ all of you are right, I need to stop making myself sick and hope for the best. He is supposed to be meeting with the investigator tomorrow morning to fill out paper work and schedule his lie detector test (yikes!!), and hopefully we will know more at that time. Until then my fingers are permanently crossed and my heart is filled with prayer ~ thanks again for all your support it really means a lot!!! cheesy.gif

Yikes, I'm sorry to hear you are stressing over that! But, congrats to him! This will be a posotive move for both of you because at least you both know you will always have a very steady income. Every department is different, like you said, because my hubby's academy was 8-9 months (LAPD). Good luck with everything and keep us posted.

By the way, we are almost neighbors now. Now that I got married, I moved to my hubby's house in Downey and Cerritos isn't too far away!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
