We went for a total of 10 days - WED to WED for my guests and an extra 3 for us. My guests all pretty much paid for jr suites, but all got upgraded to jr deluxe for free. We paid for the same but had also paid for the change to a Laguna Villa the day of our wedding - which they gave to us a day early. I absolutly loved this upgrade, we both did. The room was beautiful, private pool with beds, bar, concierge etc. However not so sure we would have taken full advantage of it if our guests had still been there.

We also went with the Private Thai Beach for our reception.....another great choice. Although it is pricey and I was back and forth on it right up until the end. I am so glad we did it, what beautiful spot......totally worth it!

Please let me know if you have any questions
Congrats!!! I'm so glad it was amazing! That's great they upgraded your guests! Did you request upgrades for your guests before you left?

Hi Margaret! I understand your concern with January, but I have been there at that time of year (although it was 10 years ago) and it was quite nice. Maybe you could do pashminas as a favor? The food was fantastic.....we had the private reception buffet and everyone said it was the best meal they had at the hotel. As for our wedding package, we did the renewal of vows and had our 20 person a la carte dinner the night before in the Mexican resturant as a rehersal dinner type thing. Also we wended up with a dj.....for FREE!!!! I told Patricia that I didn't want it when she originally put it on my contract so she took it off and didn't cahrge me for it......yippeee!!!!! Without a doubt I was sooo happy that I had my reception here, it was beautiful! I even heard other people at the pool a few days later saying how much they loved the resturant!

We also just back from our wedding at GSP The wedding was amazing, the gazebo is beautiful. We were a bit worried about the weather, but the clouds parted, and we were able to go ahead with the beach reception. The food was amazing, even the wine was drinkable (the wine in the buffets and a la carte's tastes like bad grape juice). We wanted to do a toast after the ceremony, but the resort charges $20/person! Retarded, so my friend and I took a cab to Walmart and bought 10 bottles of decent sparkling wine for 15$ a bottle. Took it back, gave it to Sandra, and she cooled it and served it after the ceremony. There was a corkage charge of 10$ a bottle opened, but I'm not sure if it ever showed up on our bill...

The reception was great! We had a Mariachi band playing during dinner, and they were amazing!. We didn't bother with a dancefloor, it was great fun dancing in the sand. The food and service was amazing. Iliana and Jose were running around like crazy keeping cups full!

If you have a big group, bring some walkie talkies to keep track.

If you want to do any group excursions, look into doing them on your own. We arranged some van taxis to take everyone to Tulum for a day and it cost less than half the cost of using a tour company. We used the same guys, brothers(ask the bellmen for the 'twins') to go into town, shop for a couple hours, take everyone to Alux restaurant (In a cenote!), and bring us all back to the hotel. For 20 people it was $160 for the taxis. Cabbies down there will regularly take you where you want to go and wait for you...

Overall, it was an amazing experience!

Hi ladies,

I'm pretty new to the site and have been lurking around for awhile - trying to find the perfect resort!

For those who have had their wedding or have stayed at Princess, how far is Playa del Carmen from the resort? I'm thinking of having our wedding offsite downtown Playa and shuttling our guests.

Hello and welcome!

I believe Playa is approximately 15 mins away...

Hey!

I am new to this forum and hoping for some guidance! We are pretty sure we are going to go with GSP...marrying in April 2011 - do you know anything about the legalities with getting married in Mexico?

Any suggestions/hints that you would give to a bride to be who is deciding on GSP??

Thanks so much!

Denise

I photographed a wedding at that resort the same week last year. My biggest advice... BUG SPRAY!!!! They are sneaky little devils at that time of year. As soon as the sun starts to go down they come out. It's not a problem at all if you have bug spray though.

I recommend the kind that is mixed with sun screen. We all used it (bride & bridesmaids included) during the wedding and it was awesome. Kept the bugs away and also made sure nobody got sunburnt! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
