Review of our wedding:

I'm sorry I didn't post this earlier- but things have been quite crazy since we got back!

We got married on 1/29/2011... and wish we could rewind back to that day!!!

We arrived on Wednesday before the Saturday ceremony- and had 55 people join us.  A majority of our guests were there Thursday through Monday, some stayed for an entire week.  Many tried to change their flights because they were having so much fun!

The resort:

Amazing.  Top notch.  We stayed in the Excellence Club Rooftop pool suite.... and it was great!  It was a little chilly to really enjoy the pool- but we did hang out on the rooftop a few times and the view was beautiful!  The "excellence club" was a nice perk... although our guests were perfectly happy without the "club" status and thought the overall service was fantastic anyways.  We really enjoyed coffee service every morning- as well as late night room service after a night of drinking (came in handy after the reception).  The concierge was so nice and made sure that everything was perfect for the whole week of our stay.  The resort is very secure and we felt very safe in terms of walking the beach and walking/jogging the property just outside the gates (there is a nice walking/jogging path that goes towards the golf course.... great for runners!)

The wedding:

Again- Amazing.  We had a beach wedding and wouldn't have done it any other way.  We saw another couple doing a ceremony in the Gazebo and it looked spectacular- but we really wanted the beach- so we stuck with the plan.  It wasn't too windy and it really turned out nice.  We had the guitarist play during the ceremony- he did such a nice job and it really added a nice touch.  Our cocktail hour was held at the x-lounge- we only made it to the last 15 min or so because of pictures- but everyone said it was a lot of fun.  The food and cocktails served there were great!  Our reception was at the Event Terrace- beautiful.  Again- it was a little chilly- but after the music started- everyone was sweating on the dance floor!!  Our DJ (DJ Mannia) was great and played all our songs we requested and we didn't have a problem with music... we extended the reception by an hour because it was so fun!  Our photographer was Juan Navarro and he also did a great job.... our pictures are so beautiful- he is a very talented photographer!

Yamina- what an amazing person!!  She is on top of everything and will go out of her way to make your wedding the best you could imagine.  I can't explain in words how wonderful she made everything.

The food:

Very good.  We are foodies... and I have to say... the food here was better than most other luxury all-inclusive resorts.  We really enjoyed the food for our wedding as well as many of the restaurant food.  Our favorite restaurant was Chez Isabelle- definitely make a point to go there.  Wasn't too fond of the mexican restaurant.. but the Lobster House and the asian restaurant were really good.

Our wedding cake was SO good!  In fact- we had some left over because many of our guests were full from the dessert already- so we had them package it for us and they would bring it to us throughout the rest of the week when we asked for it!

The spa:

My bridesmaids and I all had our hair and makeup done at the spa and they did a really nice job.  Lots of pictures to choose from- no one was unhappy with the results- everyone looked great!  They picked fresh flowers for us to put in our hair- added a nice touch to the pictures!

We had a few spa treatments that were very nice- kinda pricey- but very relaxing and worth every penny!

The beach:

Beautiful!  The sand was racked every morning and the water was perfect... a little chilly... but refreshing.

The pools:

My only complaint.  Most of the pools were pretty cold.  It was the end of January- so the weather was in the upper 70's... making it a little cool to swim in an unheated pool.  I didn't have a problem with it- but I did have some complaints from guests.  Unfortunately- you won't find too many resorts in Mexico that will have multiple heated pools.  That didn't stop anyone from swimming in the pool with the bar... there were still plenty of people enjoying the water- just took a little courage :)

Overall:

We would recommend a destination wedding to everyone- it's the way to go.  We had so much fun and all of our guests said it was the best wedding they have ever attended.  The resort was fabulous- can't wait to go for our anniversary!

A few recommendations-

Make an overall "agenda" but don't get upset if you don't stick to it... and make sure your guests realize this is a vacation... not every moment needs to be planned!

If you are going in winter/early spring- plan on it being a little chilly at night.  I gave all the female guests pashminas... they loved them and used them on the chilly nights!

Don't put too much in the gift bags... I put advil, gatorade packets, chapstick, sunblock, pashmina, sun visor, and an itinerary in each bag... my guests used all of it- but probably could have done without the gatorade packets.

If you have any questions- feel free to ask!

You will all have a wonderful wedding!!!  Enjoy :)

kdziadosz congratulations!!! Sounds like you had a beautiful wedding!

I am doing everything the same except for the ceremony will be in the gazebo. Same vendors as well. I am glad to hear the DJ was great. I heard good & bad reviews so this definitely made me feel better! Question, how long did you book Juan for and did the flower the spa put in your hair wilt throughout the daynight? I am doing a flower as well and was now thinking of going fake.

Who is up next ladies? I can't believe that I have less than 3 months left at this point!! I'm wondering if I'm behind on planning. Yamina hasn't asked me to make any decisions, so I'm assuming that all of that will take place upon arrival. Is that the case for you guys? I cannot believe how quickly time goes by!! Before I know it, I'll be in Mexico :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
