Excellence Playa Mujeres Brides Post Here!

We're getting married March of next year. We haven't given our deposit yet as we're still checking out resorts. But I've had my mind set on EPM until I found out the resort is quieter than I originally thought. I'm now considering El Dorado Royale. There's a thread up here for that resort as well so I'll check it out. Thank you so much for your feedback!

I agree. I've been to EPM and ERC, and most night entertainment ends by 11pm, and Allegra disco bar opens then, but I have not checked it out. This resort is definitely more on the quiet side. If you want to go out to a club, I would recommend going to Cancun area. When is your wedding?

Brennas,

We leave in 6 days too! I have not heard a peep from N. Am hoping to get my planner as well. Would love to have that checked off. The last time I heard from N she said just to ask for her at the front desk so we could set up our meeting. A little nervous going down without a meeting already set up.

MsBliss,

Thanks soo much for posting. You have definitely made me feel better. Congrats and enjoy your honeymoon!

We did do RSVP's with our invites that we sent out 6 months before the wedding. (Save the Dates went out 10 months before) We set the reply to be 3 months in advance, knowing we'd have a few people or their guests trickle in later. For us, it was important to get an estimate on the head count for budgeting purposes. It was amazing how many people said they were going and then by RSVP time, they couldn't do it. We've been engaged for 2 years and knew our wedding would be in Cancun the ENTIRE time, and at EPM for over a year and a half. We wanted to be able to save up for it, and also have our guest be able to prepare financially for it. Still, our "at least 50-60 people", turned into 32. Bummer that some family and friends can't make it, but it saved us a chunk of change! We were able to spend that money upgrading our room, splurging a little more for OOT bag stuff and doing spa stuff for the wedding party.

The RSVP's also had a "Beef, Fish, and dietary restrictions" option. This way our menu was set way early and it was one less thing to worry about! We scheduled a trip down there a month before we ordered the invites to do a menu tasting, meet the vendors and nail some things down. The only thing we were waiting on once we left was what the fish option would be. When emailing, it was easier to "apply pressure" because we said we HAD to have the option asap because we were printing invites. It worked!

We were going through the same dilemma! We originally considered ME by Melia, because it was more of a party scene, great food, great decor and it's right in the middle of the action in the Hotel Zone, which is super easy and normal to leave the resort and hop around to restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping etc. Once we saw both resorts (and many more) on our Wedding Venue Hunt, we fell in love with EPM even though it was pricier. We decided that we'd rather have less people, and more of what WE wanted for our wedding than try to cater too much to what everyone else wanted. It was a tough choice but we're so glad we went this way. It was pretty rowdy at EPM at the pool with a wedding group we saw there, and everyone is laid back and having fun...it's not a snooty resort. I KNOW our group is going to be rowdy, and they will for sure make their own party!

An idea for you...We're renting a mini bus and taking a day trip to Tulum. The original idea was to go out in Cancun for the night. When we took a vote, the Tulum trip won. If you're interested in an excursion of some kind, there are plenty of companies that offer personal tours...just google it. For ours, we found www.Cancunvans.com had the best price and could get all 16 of us in the same minibus!

Good luck!!

I know exactly what you mean. We sent out our STDs a year in advance and EVERYONE was going. We are talking about 45-50 people... We did RSVPs 4-5 months in advance because of our room block date to add or remove. Well we will have 25 coming with us. The part that made me mad were the people who actually RSVP yes and I am still waiting for them to tell me NO. People are so rude sometimes and I only wish I was the 1st one out of friends and family to get married because things would be a whole lot different!

But I know we will have an awesome time with the people who came and not think once about the ones that didn't. And really I only need 1 person there in the end...

Sharon99,

I feel your pain!  I had my best friend of 17 years tell me that we shouldn't wait until next year just because it will give guests more time to save money and that everyone goes on vacation, so we set a date of Nov 17th this year.  Now she is telling me she can't go because it is too soon for her to save the money!  As disappointed as I am, in the end you are right and I only need one person there!

I so feel your pain ladies. All the friends who were so excited and wanted me to have a destination wedding are coming up with all sorts of excuses as to why they cannot come. In the end we will have our parents, and most of our siblings with us, and few long time friends flying from Europe, and that's all that really matters. Those who come will have an amazing time I'm sure. We picked the best resort I think, and can't wait to be there already! :)

Hi All,

I'm really sorry that I'm so late in getting back to everyone post-wedding!!  We just got back from MX last night and it has been a bit of a whirlwind.  The ceremony and reception were GORGEOUS.  There were some details missed, but overall everything went fantastic.  I had the Gold package and 36 guests.  We went with DJ Mannia for the reception and also extended for an additional hour.  All my guests were raving about the resort and also how beautiful/fun the wedding was - I even got a few "this is the best wedding we have ever been to!" comments.

Lleny was MIA during the reception and there was a bit of confusion about when the party ended, but we were able to figure out - that was the only large issue that came up.  Also, I was very disappointed that they did not deliver the leftover cake to my room, or even the sand jar from our ceremony.  But again, I got over it and focused on the bigger picture.  Our final invoice was also incorrect, like $400 extra in centerpieces in correct, but they fixed it right away and I didn't have any other issues.  But definitely check and double check your invoice.

For those considering the paper lanterns at the reception, I LOVED it and thought it added a really nice ambiance to the event terrace - totally worth it.  And don't worry about LED throwies or anything like that, they had lights for them and everything (but there was a $100 charge to hang them).

My hair and make up went well, but I would caution that any brides planning on getting married on the beach, GET AN UPDO.  I had my hair half-up, thinking that since our wedding was in the gazebo, it wouldn't be too windy.  It was fine in the gazebo, but when we went to the beach for pics, it  was ruined and I basically had to redo it.  I wish I had just done an updo and not had to stress about it all day.

Our DJ was fantastic and the MC did a wonderful job.  We gave him about 40 songs that we wanted played and let him choose the rest and they were spot on and really got the party going.  Our photographer was Juan Navarro and he was super friendly and though he was taking tons of pictures, you didnt even notice him there.  I'll reserve my final judgement on him until we see the pictures, but I'm hopeful.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away!  I'll try to check in regularly.  I'm so jealous of all of you, I would go back and do it all over again in a minute!!

Congratulations! So glad to hear everything went smoothly for the most part. We also have the DJ and I am happy to hear you guys liked them! I was a little worried about that.

We will definitely be double checking our invoice!

Did you bring your own paper lanterns or use theirs? If you used theirs do you remember how much they were? I was not going to use any but after hearing so many people talk about them now I am thinking maybe we should...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
