Hi everyone,

We are seriously considering EPM for our destination wedding next August 2011.

We are waiting on our travel agent for pricing and then probably going to book it.

I called the hotel and emailed them and waiting for them to send me information, it seems that everyone has trouble corresponding with them.  Is this what I should expect during the whole process?

Please if anyone has any pictures of reception areas, flowers, etc. or menus from the Excellence Playa Mujeres, please send them my way.  I am new to this website and still trying to figure out how to navigate it. lol  I posted something yesterday but forgot to put my email.

Thank you so much in advance and Happy Planning!

Hello Lisa:

You will LOVE EPM!!!! The service is amazing, very romantic.  We were there in August of '09, that is were we got engaged, so I was able to check out everything in case we came back to get married there.  We will be married there on 9.3.10, it was so great, we just had to get married there. Yamina is the Wedding Coordinator and she is amazing, I can not wait to meet her in person. I have emailed her so many times during the planning and she normally emails me back that evening, if not, the next day.  I have never had an issue and I have been in contact with her since Nov '09. So do not worry, she has made the planning so easy.

I have most of the things you were asking about, so I will email them to your email above. Also, if you don't see anything you like, they will do what ever you want, they just need a picture to go by.

Hope this helps you.

Smiles,
Shanna

Hey Ladies - Just got back from Playa and we had an absolutely amazing time. Yamina is the absolute best and you have NOTHING to worry about. She is a professional in every respect and she loves what she does so no need to stress about anything. We had over 80 guests and although we held most activities at the EPM we had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Villa next door. I'll try to write a review soon. In the meantime, all the best with your planning!

Hi there my name is Mike, hope you don't mind a guy in here!

Anyways I stumbled across this great thread and it helped us decide that we should get married at EPM next year, we couldn't choose between this and SMB.

I have a few questions if you could help me with?

We're from the UK so it will just be the two of us due to the costs involved so the basic wedding package is fine for us with maybe just a few extras.

We thought we might as well get a better room and get the wedding for free but we cant decide what room to go for.  It's basically between the rooftop terrace or the club junior suite.  Can any of you who have been give me your opinions?  Is the club package worth it?

Also, we're not sure whether to go for the beach option or the gazebo, do any of you have some pics of the two areas, I've found a few on the website but it's hard to get a proper feel of the area.  We were also a bit worried about how private they are, do a lot of other guests intrude?

thanks in advance I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions!

Mike

Personally I would go for the rooftop terrace depending on when you are going.  They are installing heaters for the winter months.  We chose this room option for our wedding trip this Sept.  Club is nice but not really worth it to me and I have done it before.  Remember you are still getting the same room as everyone but with just some extra perks.  The booze in your room ( you can order room service and have glasses of this delivered), a few extra things on the room service menu( not that many more), nicer toiletries (the regular ones are really nice anyways), club access (snacks during the day and use of computer (you will never go hungry at this resort with 24hr room service and the 8 restaurant options, plus extra food down by the beach)(they have other computers for everyone else to use too and we have never had a problem waiting hours for them).  The only upside that they just started policing on was a seperate pool area and beach area but really it is next door and you don't really get that much better service there then the regular people.   You are treated like a king and queen no matter if you are club or not, so no worries there.

For great pictures I would go to tripadvisor as you really get what real people's pictures look like.  The gazebo is at the far end of the property.  I chose this option as I wanted overhead coverage for my guests in the heat.  The beach area would be fine too, but you might have a few people walk by.  The gazebo is very private on the otherhand I found.

Congrats and I hope I helped somewhat in making your decision easier.

On a side note for anyone wanting a super lengthy review on the hotel property and what it has to offer with pictures.. Go to Tripadvisor and seek out a gentleman who posts under the name Flipflopman.  He has travelled extensively to many resorts and favors Excellence Group.  He usually goes at least 3 times a year and reviews each time.  His reviews are very detailed and his pictures are just the same.  He has it in with the management very good and gets all the details prior to any release to the public it seems such as if there is going to be a new restaurant being added (which there is at the end of the year (Indian food).

    • Hi Brides! I have a Wally Bag - 66" available - $90 + shipping (US only) The wally bag typically sells for $120-$180. I used this gown bag once to transport my dress from MN to Mexico for our wedding - IT WAS PERFECT!   I was actually able to pack 4 additional maxi dresses, and my husband's wedding attire, plus a few pairs of shoes and some jewelry. I packed the dress the night before we left, and just moments before we left, I zipped the bag and folded it - ready for travel. It comes up with a nice over-the-shoulder strap, making it really easy to carry through the airports. No issues on Delta with the bag as my carry-on - I chose to put in the overhead bin, but the flight attendant did offer to hang it in the closet for me. Once we got to the resort, about 10 hours after I first folded the bag, I unpacked the bag and my dress was perfect - no wrinkles! My dress was mostly lace and had a bit of a train, but it arrived perfectly!  Honestly, this is the best way to travel with your dress!
