The Mariachi band is definitely worth it in my opinion.  It really livens up the cocktail hour and my guests loved it.  Also the guitar player, Javier Rojas, is amazing and totally worth the money.  He also plays for more like 45 minutes and he arrives early and plays while everyone is settling in.

I actually love that movie!!  It is not that great, but for some reason whenever it is on TV, I can't help but watch.

Is Javier Rojas only a part of the Mariachi trio?  If I chose Caribbean, would it be a different band?

I'm also struggling with whether or not to get a DJ.  I'm anticipating maybe 40-50 guests, many of whom probably will not dance - but I still think that I will need some kind of music.  I can't decide if an iPod playlist with speakers is enough...

Thanks! I was worried spending the money without having any feed back from someone. It sounds like it would be perfect!

lliaPSU - Javier Rojas is the guitarist. He is an additional cost (I want him for the ceremony) Basically there are 2 to chose from that are included in the gold package. The Caribbean or Mariachi for an hour.

Here is my thoughts on having a guitar player.  The alternative would be to hook up an ipod over the speakers and I think that really changes the mood.  Everyone commented to me how great they thought Javier was.  He gave us a CD after and my husband loves hearing it because it takes him right back there.  He is also super friendly and has a huge repetoire to choose from, and if he doesn't know it, he will learn it.  I really can't say anything bad about the guy.  I have no reason to push him, but I genuinely was impressed by everything about him. Yes, he isn't cheap, but nothing worth having is.  And even though he is only at the ceremony for 45 minutes or so, he has to travel to the hotel, etc...and just having a live musician for me, was the difference between being a little tacky and being very romantic.

Thank you so much for sticking around for a while after your wedding to help all of us out! It's really nice to have advice from a recent EPM bride who has already been through it all. Kinda soothes the nerves a bit.

No worries, I know how neurotic I was before the wedding.  Glad I can help while it is all still fairly fresh in my mind.  Rest assured, Yamina is amazing and will make sure everything  goes smoothly.  When she met us she had color coded folders and printouts and my Swiss husband joked that she must also be Swiss because they are very orderly and organized.

You guys are the best! I knew that having the live music/Mariachi would bring something extra special and really set the mood for our Mexican wedding and SparkleSun, you absolutely confirmed that! Also makes me realize that it is probably cost effective to just go for the Gold wedding package.

Yamina sent over the "My Wedding Planner" worksheet to fill out and I am trying to get this all nailed down before I send her the information. I would rather make my mind up and stick to it than keep making changes after I send her all the information.

I do know that I would like pictures and pictures and pictures for the wedding .... any updates of local professional photographers anyone has found/used? Did anyone upgrade to one of the packages on the EPM price list?

I am going to go into this in further detail when I write my full review next week.  But I used Matt and Juan from Del Sol as my photographers.  I really cant say enough about them, and everyone else I had contact with over there. Now that the dust has settled from our wedding, the only things I have left are my memories and my photos.  They are absolutely worth the added investment, as your photos are not the place you want to compromise.  From the initial contact until now they have been friendly, professional, and always quick to respond and the quality of the photos are second to none.  The day of my wedding was slightly overcast and gloomy, yet when we received our pictures everything looked beautiful and sunny.  In addition, the way they are able to capture the emotions is uncanny.  It's not just me, have a look at what the other brides who have used them have said...everyone cant be wrong :)  I'll post a link to my full review of them later, but for now, I would book them while you still have a chance!

SparkleSun!!! SWOON!!!! Your photos are beautiful. You can literally feel all of the love that was surrounding you just by looking at those photos. Not to mention, they made me super excited for my day! Coming so soon :) You may have already gone over this but I need to ask, did you spring for a DJ during your reception? I saw your guitarist and mariachi... I think we're going to use the caribbean trio during our cocktail hour. Also, which spot did you use for the reception? Wow, it all looked so beautiful!

Thanks for the kind words, Del Sol has a way of capturing the feelings in such a way that it really comes across on film.  We felt super fortunate to have so much love and support during our wedding from our friends and family, and feel lucky to have it captured.  Yes, we took the DJ, which was totally worth it as well.  You can see his set up in the corner along with the cold fireworks he brought with him in photo 174 of my slideshow.  Besides the final song of the night, it was really just me and my 3 bridesmaids who were dancing, but we had great fun. Also he did a great job of setting the mood, playing more chill stuff while we were eating, then stepping it up for party time.  Much nicer than plugging in your ipod and constantly having to fuss with it in my opinion.  At EPM you are only allowed to have DJ Mannia, but I felt they did a fine job.  They emailed us beforehand to ask what we wanted to hear and our do not plays and he did a great job filling in the blanks based on our tastes.

We had our reception on the event terrace.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
